Alek (portrayed by Jason Kirkpatrick) was a minor character from Season 9 of The Walking Dead. Appearing following the series' six-year time jump, he was a member of a small band of marauders known as the Highwaymen. These men would patrol the deserted roads of the post-apocalyptic world, extorting supplies from anyone they encountered. While hostile, the Highwaymen prefered to conduct their business in a civil manner. When they first encountered the people of the Kingdom, they sent a message to King Ezekiel which included a list of demands and threats against anyone who did not pay the toll for using "their" roads.

Rather than give into the Highwaymen's demands, King Ezekiel and Carol Peletier sought a diplomatic solution. Taking an armed entourage with them, they met with the Highwaymen at their hideout, offering to employ them to keep the roads clear for the members of the Coalition to trade with one another. The Highwaymen accepted the deal after hearing that the Kingdom had access to movies from the pre-apocalyptic world and would later assist Tara Chambler and a group from the Hilltop in eliminating a herd of walkers.

Death[]

In the episode "The Calm Before", Alek and the Highwaymen were working to keep the roads clear as the Kingdom was accepting visitors for its trade fair. During their patrol, they encountered an overturned wagon that had clearly been attacked by living people rather than the dead. While Michonne, Daryl, Carol and Yumiko followed the tracks left by the assailants, the Highwaymen returned to their patrol.

Later, Ozzy, D.J. and Alek would come across the Whisperers leading a captured Siddiq to a stable where several other people were being held. They rode towards the stable and joined the others in fighting back against their enemies. However, Alpha would arrive with reinforcements, leading to the slaughter of most of the group with only Siddiq being left alive as a witness. The ten victims of the massacre would be decapitated and their heads planted on pikes which Alpha would use to mark the border between the Whisperers' and Coalition's territories.

The next day, Daryl's tracking party was released from the Whisperers' camp and found Siddiq not far from the newly-established border. The group were shocked and heartbroken to witness the reanimated heads of ten of their friends and family members planted upon the hill as a grim marker. After putting down the zombified heads, the group returned to the Kingdom and Siddiq told everyone what had happened, remarking how the victims of the massacre had all fought valiantly for one another until the very end and that they should be remembered as heroes.
