Alex Winthrop was a minor character from the television series Gotham, appearing in the Season 4 episode "The Demon's Head". A teenage boy with a fascination for antiquities, he assisted his grandfather Dr. Niles Winthrop in studying historical relics at the Gotham Natural History Museum.
History[]
After buying a 1st century embalming knife at auction, Bruce Wayne brought the artifact to Dr. Winthrop to be inspected. Both Niles and Alex took a keen interest in the knife and assured Bruce that they would have the results of the inspection the next day.
That night, Winthrop examined the ancient symbols carved into the knife's hilt, deciphering some of the text as reading "the Demon's Head". According to legend, a man known as Ra's al Ghul had managed to overcome death and possessed the ability to resurrect himself. Suddenly, a stranger came knocking at their door and Niles told Alex to take the knife to his office and hide it. Alex took the knife, but hid in the shadows beyond the back door, peaking through to witness the stranger murder his grandfather.
Alex managed to escape with the knife and hid it away somewhere while he took refuge in his grandfather's room at Gotham Central Library. Bruce and Jim Gordon would track Alex down, promising him protection, but the trio were then attacked by the Hunter and Anubis, two of Ra's minions. While Gordon fought the Hunter, Alex and Bruce ran from Anubis where they managed to get away. Bruce and Alex talked and eventually Alex revealed the location of the knife to Bruce.
Death[]
When at the Gotham Natural History Museum, Anubis and the Hunter tracked down Bruce and Alex just as Gordon arrived. Upon Gordon and Bruce defeating Anubis and the Hunter, Ra's al Ghul had come up from behind Alex and held him at knifepoint, threatening to kill him if Bruce didn't give him the embalming knife. Gordon urged Bruce to surrender the artifact, but Bruce fearfully hesitated. Thus, Ra's followed through on his threat, cutting Alex's throat and killing him. Ra's then promptly surrendered and Gordon arrested him.
