Dr. Allen Chamberlain is a character from the 1999 film The Mummy. An Egyptologist from Great Britain, he joined a group of treasure hunters in seeking out the treasures of the ancient necropolis Hamunaptra. He was portrayed by Jonathan Hyde.
History[]
Dr. Chamberlain accompanied a group of adventurers led by cowardly French Foreign Legionnaire Beni Gabor. He had hoped to acquire several priceless artifacts from the ancient tombs of Hamunaptra which would bring him prestige and wealth.
Chamberlain's party made it to Hamunaptra and succeeded in uncovering an ancient chest containing the Book of the Dead. Upon the chest and the contents within was a terrible curse that would awaken the dead that slept within the tomb, but the good doctor kept the book closed and held it on his person. That night, while the doctor slept, Evelyn Calahan took the book and used the puzzle key to unlock it. She read aloud from the book and in doing so brought about the resurrection of Imhotep. Upon awakening, Imhotep brought with him the plagues of ancient Egypt as he hunted down the men responsible for opening the chest that contained the book.
Death[]
As one of those who opened the chest, Chamberlain was marked by Imhotep's curse. The mummy followed the group of adventurers back to Cairo where he hunted down the accursed men, consuming their life force in order to regenerate his dessicated body. Chamberlain, fearing for his life and his reputation, wandered the streets of Cairo, fearing that someone may be following him. Imhotep soon caught up to him and consumed his life energy, leaving the doctor's withered husk lying in the street.
