Annette Birkin is a minor character in the action-horror film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Loosely based on the character from the Resident Evil 2 video game, she is the wife of Dr. William Birkin, though unlike her game counterpart, she is not involved with her husband's research on the T-Virus and does not work for Umbrella at all.
In late 1998, Umbrella began moving their operations from Raccoon City to Tall Oaks after Raccoon's water supply became contaminated with the T-Virus, leading to an outbreak that saw most of the town's population turned into zombies. The Birkins received a phone call in the middle of the night informing them of the situation and they packed up to leave. Rather than head straight out of the city, William decided to make a detour to Umbrella's NEST laboratory where he had been carrying out research on the new G-Virus.
After arriving at the lab, William gathered up several T and G samples into an attache case. Before he and his family could leave, renegade police officer Albert Wesker entered the lab and held William at gunpoint, demanding that he hand over the attache case. William refused and reached for a gun, but Wesker shot him, fatally wounding him. As Annette held on to her daughter Sherry, William urged her to pass him a vial. Wesker then approached Annette and shot her through the head, killing her instantly, much to Sherry's shock.
