Antoine "Trip" Triplett was a recurring character in Seasons 1 and 2 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He was a Level 6 S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who worked under John Garrett, though he would later join Phil Coulson's team after Garrett was revealed to be a member of HYDRA. He was portrayed by B.J. Britt.

Personality[]

Antoine Triplett was a dedicated S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who strongly believed in the ideals that the organization was founded upon. He was fiercely loyal to his supervising officers and co-agents, willing to do whatever it took to keep them from harm, even at the cost of a mission's success.

Triplett was the grandson of Gabe Jones, a member of the Howling Commandos who served under Captain America during World War II. Because of this, many of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s higher-ups expected great things from him, though Triplett disliked the idea of being treated differently due to his heritage.

Death[]

In the Season 2 episode "What They Become", S.H.I.E.L.D. battles against HYDRA for control of an ancient alien city buried deep beneath Puerto Rico. Raina, having obtained the mysterious Diviner from HYDRA, ventures into the temple within the centre of the city, certain that she has discovered the object's true purpose.Skye follows her into the temple's central chamber and Triplett follows Skye in order to bring her back.

Within the central chamber, the Diviner activates and opens, revealing a strange crystal inside. This crystal, later revealed to be a Terrigen crystal, releases a gas that floods the chamber. The Terrigen Mists envelop Skye and Raina in cocoon-like formations while Triplett appears to be unaffected. Upon seeing Skye become completely enveloped by the cocoon, Triplett reacts by kicking the Terrigen crystals on the central plinth. The crystals then shattered and the force threw Triplett back against the wall. However, when the crystals shattered, shards became embedded in Triplett's abdomen. Triplett suffered the same horrific fate as those who had previously touched the Diviner: his body petrified and he turned to stone.

In seconds, Skye's Terrigenesis was complete and the cocoon covering her eyes crumbled. When she saw what had happened to Triplett, she screamed and her newfound power to manipulate molecular vibrations kicked in with an uncontrolled burst, shattering what was left of her cocoon and also causing Triplett's petrified form to fall apart. Triplett's death was a heavy blow to his friends, most notably to Skye as she felt responsible for his death as he had died while trying to help her.
