Arius (portrayed by Dan Hedaya) is the secondary antagonist of Commando. He was the president of the small nation of Val Verdes until John Matrix deposed him. A year after being ousted, Arius seeks to take revenge on Matrix and return to power.

Arius hires Bennett, a former member of Matrix's old commando squad, to kidnap Jenny Matrix in order to black mail her father into helping Arius return to power in Val Verdes. In spite of the precautions he takes to ensure Matrix's cooperation, he gravely underestimates just how dangerous Matrix is when the safety of his daughter is threatened. Arius employs a small army to protect his island villa, but they prove to be no match for the vengeful Matrix.

John Matrix storms Arius' island villa, killing every last one of his men single-handedly. Arius hunts down Matrix through the halls of his extravagant mansion but is ultimately gunned down like the rest of his soldiers.
