This article lists the various background character deaths that occur in Avengers: Infinity War.

  • At the beginning of the film, the spacecraft Statesman carrying the population from Asgard is attacked by Thanos and the Black Order. Half the passengers onboard are killed in accordance with Thanos' philosophy on balance and population control.
  • Using the Power Stone, Thanos destroys the Statesman, most likely killing more Asgardians. However, not all the Asgardians die in the ship's destruction as survivors are shown to be living on Earth in Avengers: Endgame.
  • After being rescued by the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor tells them that a week prior Thanos wiped out half the population of Xandar when he collected the Power Stone from there.
  • Gamora experiences a flashback to her childhood, to the day when Thanos and the Chitauri invaded her homeworld of Zen-Whoberi. While Thanos takes the young Gamora aside to teach her about his philosophy of balance, the Chitauri exterminate half the population of her home city, going to do the same across every city on the planet.
  • After arriving at Knowhere, Gamora appears to kill Thanos after stabbing him in the neck. However, this was merely an illusion created by the Reality Stone which Thanos had already obtained. As well as the illusory Thanos disappearing, all of Knowhere suddenly changes as the illusion vanishes, revealing that Knowhere has already been decimated and left to burn.
  • Thor, Rocket and Groot arrive at Nidavellir to find that the forge has gone dark and Eitri is the last of the dwarves. Eitri had built the Infinity Gauntlet for Thanos on the promise that his people would be spared. Thanos didn't keep that promise.
  • Aboard the Sanctuary II, Nebula escapes from confinement. She does this after disconnecting one of her implants and when the Chitauri guard goes to reconnect it, she grabs the guard's head and twists, breaking its neck.
  • A Q-Ship arrives in Earth orbit and releases several landing pods over Wakanda. The first pod to fall smashes against the Golden City's shield dome and explodes, killing whatever was inside it.
  • The Battle of Wakanda begins as the Black Order unleash countless Outriders against the Avengers and the Wakandan armies. The creatures simply throw themselves at the shield dome, trying to breach it through sheer brute force and numbers. Many of them are killed as the shield sheers them to pieces.
  • As the Outriders start breaching the shield, the Border Tribe warriors along with Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Falcon and Banner inside the Hulkbuster armour start firing their weapons, taking down every attacker within range.
  • Falcon flies over a line of Outriders and picks them off with his wing projectiles.
  • War Machine flies by the shield wall and drops a payload of bombs, blowing up several Outriders just as they breach the barrier.
  • Half a dozen Outriders are picked off by sonic blaster fire.
  • The north-west section of the shield dome is opened and countless Outriders pour in. As the Avengers enter the battle, Captain America starts beating down several Outriders while Black Panther slashes at them with his claws.
  • Piloting the Hulkbuster, Banner crushes several Outriders beneath the suit's boots.
  • Winter Soldier shoots several Outriders before his rifle is knocked out of his hands.
  • An Outrider pins Winter Soldier down, only to be repeatedly stabbed in the neck.
  • Cap and Black Panther continue to beat up numerous Outriders.
  • War Machine fires all of his weapons at the opening in the shield dome, killing countless Outriders.
  • The Bifrost suddenly appears in the middle of the battlefield, vaporising any Outriders caught in the pillar of light.
  • Thor's new axe, Stormbreaker, flies out of the Bifrost pillar and cuts down a dozen Outriders before flying back into Thor's hand.
  • Thor leaps into the air and brings down Stormbreaker upon the ground, releasing a tremendous shockwave that kills all of the Outriders in its radius.
  • Cull Obsidian crushes several Wakandan warriors with his chain hammer.
  • Holding his rifle in one hand and Rocket Raccoon in the other, Bucky spins around on the spot and he and Rocket shoot over a dozen Outriders that charge at them from all sides.
  • Thor sends four Outriders flying with strikes from Stormbreaker.
  • Groot grows and extends his arm, impaling three Outriders with it.
  • The Black Order release nine Threshers onto the battlefield. These enormous wheel-shaped machines emerge from the ground, slaughtering whatever Wakandans and Outriders are caught in their path.
  • Falcon and War Machine destroy one of the Threshers by firing on its flanks.
  • As Black Widow and Okoye strike down a pair of Outriders, the remaining Threshers roll towards them, mowing down several Outriders and Wakandans.
  • Scarlet Witch enters the fray and protects Black Widow and Okoye by using her telekinesis to upend the Threshers.
  • Corvus Glaive makes it to Shuri's lab, cutting down three Dora Milaje standing between him and Vision.
  • M'Baku hammers an Outrider into the ground.
  • Thor lays waste to a horde of Outriders and destroys one of their landing craft.
  • After finally obtaining all six Infinity Stones, Thanos accomplishes his ultimate goal. With a snap of his fingers, he unleashes the Stones' full power and immediately kills half of all life in the universe. Those affected by the Snap all disappear as they silently turn to dust.
