Bane as he appears in DC Comics
Bane is a DC Comics supervillain and one of the major enemies of Batman. He may look like a pro wrestler, but he is, in fact, a mercenary and terrorist who possesses both superhuman strength and an above average intellect to match. Born and raised in a hellish South American prison where only the strongest could survive, Bane honed his mind and body to the peak of human performance, then went further by enhancing his muscles with the super-steroid known as "Venom". He originally made his name in Gotham City by staging a mass breakout at Arkham Asylum and then confronting Batman and breaking the Dark Knight's spine. Batman would eventually come back from this defeat, but Bane has remained a consistent threat ever since.
