William "Billy" Hitchcock is one of the main characters from the horror film Final Destination. He was a student at Mount Abraham High School and a friend of Alex Browning. He was among the seven survivors of the Volée Airlines Flight 180 disaster and the fourth survivor to die in the film.
History[]
Billy was among the students who qualified for Mount Abraham High's annual field trip to Paris in 1999. He was very excited for the trip, particularly at the prospect of hooking up with some of the girls. These dreams were dashed, however, when Alex Browning had a panic attack before takeoff, loudly exclaiming that the plane was going to explode. Ms. Lewton and Carter Horton escorted Alex off the plane and Billy, Terry Chaney, Tod Waggner and Clear Rivers followed to see if Alex was okay.
After the seven were off the plane, the co-pilot refused to let them back on and the plane soon departed without them. As Billy looked out of the terminal window, he saw the plane suddenly explode. He then turned and fell to the floor as the shockwave from the explosion reached the terminal, shattering the windows.
A month following the disaster, Billy tried to go about his life as normal, but found himself becoming entangled in Alex and Clear's investigation into Death and how it was now seemingly stalking the survivors of the incident, picking them off one by one. He personally witnessed the death of Terry after he himself was knocked off his bike by Carter's car. He then later saw Alex fleeing from Ms. Lewton's house just before it exploded. While Billy didn't personally believe that Alex had killed Ms. Lewton, he told Alex that the police had found evidence at the scene that made it appear that he was responsible.
Following Ms. Lewton's death, Billy, Carter and Clear found Alex sitting near a creek. They then took a ride in Carter's car and they discussed Death's design and how Alex had figured it out. Billy began expressing his regrets over all the things he had yet to do in his life, but Carter seemed to snap and was determined to prove that he decided his own fate. He began driving erratically and ignored the others' protests to stop the car. At this time, Alex experienced another vision, seeing the image of an oncoming train in the car window.
Death[]
Carter brought his car to a stop at a railroad crossing, apparently deciding to commit suicide by waiting for a train to come along and run him over. Not wanting to die with him, Alex Billy and Clear got out of the car and continued to urge Carter to get out too as a freight train was approaching. The crossing barriers came down and it seemed that Carter changed his mind about dying. However, as he tried to unbuckle his seatbelt, the clasp became stuck. Inexplicably, the driver's door suddenly locked itself, leaving Carter trapped. Clear and Alex tried to help Carter, who rolled down his window so that his friends could pull him out. Just as the train was almost upon them, Carter's seatbelt snapped and he was pulled free of the car, which was destroyed when the train collided with it.
Standing near the railroad, Billy began yelling at Carter, believing that he was next on Death's list and deciding that he was going to stay as far away from him as possible. However, as he was still standing next to the railroad, a chain underneath the train swiped up a piece of shrapnel from the car wreckage which was sent flying in Billy's direction. He turned around as the shrapnel sliced his head off from the jaw up. After the train passed, his body collapsed to the ground.
