Blackagar Boltagon - also known as Black Bolt - is a heroic character from Marvel Comics. He is the king of the Inhumans, a group of humans genetically modified by the Kree and granted superpowers by exposure to the Terrigen Mists. Black Bolt himself possesses the devastating ability to destroy anything before him with his voice; even the slightest whisper from his lips can completely annihilate a human body. As such, Black Bolt is usually silent.
Marvel Cinematic Universe[]
A version of Black Bolt appears in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in which he is portrayed by Anson Mount. An inhabitant of Earth-838, he is a member of the Illuminati, a cabal of the world's greatest minds who use their abilities to protect their Earth and wider universe, often having to make difficult choices that the general population would object to. Being unable to speak without destroying everything around him, Black Bolt communicates with subtle body motions. He uses his voice to execute individuals who pose a significant threat.
When Doctor Strange of Earth-199999 arrived on Earth-838, the Illuminati considered him a threat due to the actions of their own world's version of Strange, whom Black Bolt had executed for consulting the forbidden magical tome known as the Darkhold. Despite Strange's warnings about Wanda Maximoff coming to their world, the Illuminati imprisoned him and America Chavez.
When the Scarlet Witch arrived on Earth-838, she attacked the Illuminati's headquarters. The Illuminati confronted Wanda, warning her of Black Bolt's power. However, Wanda magically fused Black Bolt's jaw and mouth shut. When he tried to use his power, it backfired and caused his brain to implode, killing him instantly.
