Bright Eyes was a CGI character that appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. She was a chimpanzee test subject for Gen-Sys Laboratories who experimented on her in their pursuit for a cure to Alzheimer's disease. She was also the mother of the prequel trilogy's central ape protagonist Caesar.
History[]
The chimpanzee that would become known as "Bright Eyes" was originally stolen from her jungle habitat in West Africa by human poachers. She was sold and shipped to Gen-Sys Laboratories in San Fransisco for medical experimentation.
During her months of captivity, Bright Eyes (or Chimp #9 as the lab staff had officially designated her) was administered an experimental retroviral drug known as ALZ-112, the purpose of which was to cure neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's. As tests would indicate, the drug greatly increased Bright Eyes' mental capabilities, as she demonstrated by completing a Lucas Tower puzzle in the shortest possible number of moves. What Bright Eyes' handlers were unaware of was that she was with child and had secretly given birth two months into her captivity.
Death[]
Robert Franklin attempted to bribe Bright Eyes into coming out of her cage with fizzy soda after discovering that she was hiding something under her cot. The cunning chimp was able to overpower Franklin when he attempted to leash her and escaped from the main lab, running into the Gen-Sys building's main office section and smashing through a window into the boardroom where a meeting was in progress. Dr. Will Rodman, head researcher of the ALZ project, urged the security guards not to harm the chimp, but to no avail. A guard fired live rounds into Bright Eyes and killed her in front of Rodman and the board of directors.
