Bruce (portrayed by Ted Huckabee) is a minor supporting character from The Walking Dead. Appearing between Seasons 5 and 8, he was a resident of the Alexandria Safe-Zone.
History[]
Bruce was first seen during Season 5 after Rick Grimes and his group arrived in Alexandria. He was welcoming to the newcomers and acted as the voice of reason among the community's construction crew after walkers attacked the construction site. While Tobin had ordered everyone to stay back, Abraham Ford stepped in to fight off the walkers and rescue an injured Francine. Bruce stepped in when Tobin tried to argue with Abraham, calling for everyone to calm down and take off for the rest of the day.
During Season 6, Alexandria was threatened by a massive herd of walkers and supplies were running low, leading to rising tensions among the residents. Bruce had attempted to raid the pantry for food to give to his family, but Spencer Monroe was able to defuse the situation and calm down the panicked residents. Feeling ashamed of what he had done, Bruce gave up what food he had stolen and returned home. After Alexandria was overrun by the undead horde, he became inspired by the bravery of Rick and his people, joining them and the rest of the townsfolk in exterminating the walkers infesting the community.
When Alexandria later went to war against the Saviors, Bruce joined the Militia, which consisted of able-bodied fighters from Alexandria, the Kingdom and Hilltop Colony. He would take part in the assault on Sanctuary and later help defend the Hilltop from a Savior attack.
Death[]
In the Season 8 episode "Do Not Send Us Astray", Bruce was among the Militia members defending the Hilltop from a Savior attack. He was wounded during the battle, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. However, he became gravely sick during the night, as did the others who had been injured during the battle. Most of those who had been injured in the battle died from infection caused by the Saviors' weapons which had been tainted with walker blood. They would then reanimate and attack the survivors taking refuge in Barrington House, although they would be put down before too many lives were lost.
When Rick and the others realised how their friends had turned, the bed-ridden Bruce begged to be put out of his misery before the same happened to him. He was not killed on-screen, though it is implied that Maggie euthanised him before he reanimated.
