Carl Pinkney (portrayed by Ian Quinlan) was a supporting character in the second season of Gotham. He was a young rookie cop picked fresh out of the Academy for the GCPD's new Strike Force.
History[]
Captain Nathaniel Barnes interviewed and recruited Carl along with, Josie Mac, Luke Garrett, and Sal Martinez to the Strike Force. The group was later presented with their uniforms and weapons by Barnes, and were present when he was told about the murder of Janice Caulfield. Carl along with the rest of the Strike Force saved Randall Hobbs from Victor Zsasz who had been attempting to assassinate him. Carl and the rest of the strike force were later berated by Detective Harvey Bullock for joking about the near miss of Josie getting shot, and he and the others were presented by Barnes with their first official mission, to build a case to take down the Penguin.
Death[]
In the episode "Mad Grey Dawn", Edward Nygma, who by this point has fully embraced his criminal persona, sets up an elaborate plan to discredit Jim Gordon who Nygma believes suspects him of murdering Kristen Kringle. As part of his plan, he makes an anonymous call to the GCPD from a payphone in the apartment block where Officer Pinkney lives. The call is concerning Gordon's role in the murder of Theo Galavan. After making the call, Nygma knocks on Pinkney's door. After Pinkney invites him in, Nygma kills Pinkney by bludgeoning him to death with a crowbar. The crowbar had previously been handled by Gordon during a bomb incident at the train station, and so it had Gordon's fingerprints on it. Since Nygma wore gloves while handling it, he left no fingerprints of his own on the crowbar. He then left the crowbar next to Pinkney's body and left. Gordon soon arrived to find Pinkney's body, followed soon after by Captain Nathaniel Barnes. Barnes was led to believe that Gordon killed Pinkney and arrested him.
