Clear Rivers was a main character in both Final Destination and Final Destination 2. She was a student at Mount Abraham High School and a survivor of the Volée Airlines Flight 180 disaster. She and her boyfriend Alex Browning were the ones to discover the grand design of Death as their friends who had survived the plane explosion began to die off in mysterious circumstances. Though she and Alex thought they had broken Death's plan, Death continued to haunt them until Clear was the only survivor left, resorting to having herself institutionalized for her own safety.

Final Destination[]

In 1999, Clear was among several students who qualified for Mt. Abraham High School's annual field trip to Paris. However, shortly before departure, Alex Browning began ranting about how the plane was going to explode, alarming the other passengers. Alex had to be removed from the plane and Clear, Tod Waggner, Carter Horton, Terry Chaney, Billy Hitchcock and their teacher Ms. Lewton followed after him. The co-pilot refused to let the group back on and the plane took off moments later. Just as Alex had warned, however, the plane did explode, killing all 287 on board, including 39 Mt. Abraham students and four teachers.

A month after the Flight 180 explosion, one of the survivors - Tod - died under mysterious circumstances. While Tod's parents and the police believed he had killed himself due to survivor's guilt, Alex and Clear weren't convinced. The same night Tod had died, Alex and Clear snuck into the morgue to examine the body. There, they met the coroner William Bludworth, asking him what he thought regarding the circumstances behind Tod's death. Bludworth stated that there were no accidents when it came to Death, that Death had a plan and that Alex and the others had messed up that plan by not dying on the plane. This meant that Death would be coming for the survivors one by one until it had fixed its design.

Clear and Alex soon become convinced of Bludworth's words as three other survivors die the following day, which they bear witness to. Believing that he is next on Death's list, Alex decides to lock himself in a cabin and rigs it in order to make it completely accident-proof. However, it is Clear who is next on the list. During a thunderstorm the next night, high winds blow loose live wire cables around Clear's house. She notices Death's presence and after Clear releases her dog Rex, a loose rotary clothesline that nearly impaled her earlier is blown into a portable pool of water that spills water around her, but Clear is able to jump onto the trellis before the water conducts the voltage from the cable. She climbs onto the house and enters through the window as the wire hits the house's main breaker, short circuiting all her home appliances in her house and forcing Clear to run through the garage to escape in her car.

As the wire breaks through the garage door, Clear drives off and the rails of the garage door hit the car's windshields. She manages to drive through but the wire lands on top of the car, shutting off the car's battery and preventing her from escaping. The wire hits a spike that punctures a gasoline tank, that leaks under her car.

When Alex arrived at the house, he tried to knock the wire off the car with a shovel but it flew out of his hand into a tank of acetylene that propels under the car and ignites the gasoline leak, spreading the fire around the car. With no other options, Alex grabs the wire, despite Clear's pleas for him to stop, allowing Clear to escape from the car seconds before it explodes.

Six months later, Clear travels to Paris along with a recovered Alex and Carter to celebrate their survival. However, as Alex rethinks about their triumph over Death, she notices a reflection of a bus behind her, an omen from Terry's death earlier. Clear warns Alex, saving him from a speeding bus, yet also witnesses Carter's demise and realises that Death's plan is still in action.

Final Destination 2[]

Clear rivers 2

Three months following Carter's death in Paris, Alex suddenly died when a loose brick fell on his head. As the last survivor of Flight 180, Clear constantly feared for her life and felt that she could only be safe by closing herself off from the world. To this end, she voluntarily committed herself to the Stonybrook Mental Institution, being locked away in a padded cell where nothing could possibly hurt her.

Months after being institutionalized, Clear learned about a disaster similar to Flight 180. A horrific pileup had occurred on Route 23, resulting in eighteen deaths. Kimberly Corman, a survivor of the incident, came to see Clear in her cell and ask for her advice. Clear's only advice to Kimberly was to do as she did: isolate herself from the world and leave the other survivors to be picked off. However, Clear changed her mind after learning about the death of Evan Lewis, deciding that she couldn't allow more people to die.

After Tim Carpenter's demise, Clear leaves the asylum and decides to help Kimberly. She revisited Bludworth, along with Kimberly and Officer Thomas Burke, who told them that the only sure-fire way to cheat Death is via new life. This led them to believe that Isabella Hudson, a pregnant woman who was present at Route 23, could break the chain by having her baby and give all of them a clean slate.

While Isabella was taken into custody, the survivors gathered in Thomas' apartment. Clear tried to explain to them how to evade Death, although none of the other survivors believed her and they all left with the exception of Rory. After witnessing Nora's death, the survivors are convinced, and she and the other survivors rush to the hospital after learning that Isabella has gone into labour.

As the group races to reach Isabella, they discover that they were all spared from Death once before because of the events set into motion by the survivors of Flight 180. The vehicle suffers a blowout, causing it to crash, and Eugene Dix is taken to the hospital for a severe injury.

After Kat Jennings and Rory Peters are killed, Clear, Kimberly, and Thomas rush to the hospital. Clear goes to find Eugene, while Kimberly and Thomas find Isabella. They find that she and her baby are alive, however after Kimberly recalls her vision, it is revealed that Isabella was never meant to die in the pileup.

Meanwhile in Eugene's room, the air vents close and two oxygen tanks start leaking. Something falls over and knocks into one of Eugene's life support machines, pulling its plug nearly out of the socket. The socket sparks because of the oxygen but doesn't ignite yet. Clear rushes to Eugene's room and opens the door which knocks the plug completely out of the socket, which then creates a spark and ignites the oxygen around Clear and Eugene, incinerating them both and ending the Flight 180 list. When the room explodes, Clear's body is flung out into the corridor as Kimberly and Thomas were running to meet her. The two are horrified to see Clear's charred body lying before them.
