Dante was a supporting antagonist in Season 10 of The Walking Dead. Initially portrayed as a new doctor in Alexandria, he is later revealed to be a spy for the Whisperers.
History[]
Prior to the apocalypse, Dante was a medic in the U.S. Army. He had served in Iraq where he had witnessed the massacre of his entire squadron, leaving him the only survivor. After returning from Iraq, Dante spent a great deal of time in and out of hospitals being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Early in the apocalypse, Dante and his son Jimmy struggled to survive. At one point, Jimmy was threatened by a stranger whom Dante killed in order to protect his son. However, Jimmy would die regardless as he fell prey to the undead.
Years later, Dante would join the ranks of the Whisperers and even took part in the trade fair massacre at the Kingdom. While Alpha executed most of the captured victims, Dante stood by Siddiq and forced him to watch as his friends were slaughtered one by one. Since he was wearing a mask made from walker skin, Siddiq never saw Dante's face.
Following the massacre, Alpha assigned Dante to infiltrate Alexandria with the purpose of sowing discord among its residents, leading to their community's collapse. Discarding his mask, he joined a small group of survivors camping out in the forest. After the camp was attacked by walkers - an event that Dante likely caused himself - he called out for help and was soon after saved by a group of Alexandrians. He was taken back to their community and welcomed after being interviewed by Gabriel Stokes.
Within Alexandria, Dante became fast friends with Siddiq, the man he had once held captive. As a former army medic, he put his skills to use once more as Alexandria's newest doctor. He put on a facade of friendliness to the residents and genuinely did all he could to heal their ailments, that was, until the Whisperers implemented their plan to contaminate Alexandria's water supply. After being informed that the Whisperers were bleeding walkers into the stream, Dante sabotaged the filtration pumps, causing untreated water to flow into the supply of drinking water. This led to an outbreak of cholera in the community, which was initially believed to be a simple stomach bug. On top of this, the Whisperers also directed several herds of walkers towards Alexandria to wear down the community's defences. Dante only compounded the situation by writing graffiti around the town, painting the words "SILENCE THE WHISPERS" to sow distrust towards Lydia, Alpha's daughter, who had been taken in by the Alexandrians before Dante joined the Whisperers.
After a Whisperer is captured in the woods and brought back to Alexandria, Dante is tasked with treating him. When they recognize each other, Dante tells the Whisperer not to try anything. He then suggested to Siddiq that he should leave while he stayed and to tend to the prisoner. However, Dante poisoned him by treating his wounds with hemlock plants to prevent his real identity from being exposed. When the prisoner later died, Siddiq looked in Dante's bag to find hemlock, but Dante lied and told the others that Siddiq had packed the bag. Siddiq, still suffering PTSD from the trade fair massacre, believed this to be possible, which only made his depression that much worse. To cap it off, Dante later murdered Siddiq's favourite patient Cheryl, who was already dying from cholera, thus it was easy to make it seem that she had succumbed to her illness. He later appeared to be digging a grave for Cheryl, however, he was actually digging a connecting entrance/exit to a secret underground tunnel that was constructed by the Whisperers to serve as an entry point for the group's use to eventually infiltrate and attack the community.
Following Cheryl's death and Siddiq's suicide attempt, Dante visited Siddiq in his house to offer him comfort. As he made reassurances to his friend, he started clicking his tongue. It was then that Siddiq recalled an important detail of the trade fair massacre: the Whisperer that forced him to watch his friends die had also clicked their tongue. Realizing that Dante was that Whisperer, he tried to attack him, but Dante overpowered him and held him in a chokehold, apologizing to him as he strangled the life out of him. He knelt down beside Siddiq's body to stab his brain, but before he could do so, there was a knock at the door. Dante opened the door to find Rosita there and told her that Siddiq was asleep, trying to cover up the murder. However, Siddiq reanimated as they talked and Rosita heard his raspy moans.
Realizing that the jig was up, Dante attacked Rosita. Their struggle took them into the bathroom where Rosita had set down her baby daughter Coco. The now-undead Siddiq lurched into the bathroom to feed on the wailing baby, but Rosita was able to overpower Dante and put Siddiq down before he could harm his daughter. Afterwards, Dante was beaten into unconsciousness by Rosita and locked up in a cell.
Death[]
While locked up, Dante was questioned regarding his actions and confessed that Alpha had sent him to stir up paranoia among the residents. He told Daryl and Rosita that Siddiq wasn't a part of the plan and that he genuinely liked him, but that it didn't matter in the end since Alexandria was still going to fall. After Dante expressed his satisfaction over how they were going to decide what to do with him, Rosita kicked him before she and Daryl left.
Gabriel later entered the cell to speak to Dante, asking him if what he had told him during his introduction interview was true. Dante said it didn't matter in the end. Gabriel then opened the cell, telling Dante how he had loved Siddiq like a brother. When Dante asked him if all people deserved a second chance, Gabriel responded violently. Drawing a knife, he threw Dante to the floor and viciously stabbed him over and over again in a fit of murderous rage.
