Dylan Blake was the primary antagonist of the CG-animated film Resident Evil: Death Island. Originally a mercenary in the Umbrella Corporation's paramilitary security forces, he was forced to kill his friend and comrade J.J. as well as witness the deaths of his fellow soldiers during the Raccoon City Incident of 1998, leaving him with a broken psyche. Years later, he turned to bioterrorism and intended to reset human society by unleashing a variant of the T-Virus upon the world.
History[]
1998[]
In September 1998, the American midwestern town of Raccoon City was devastated when the T-Virus, a mutagenic virus secretly engineered by the Umbrella Corporation, was leaked into the town's water supply, infecting the majority of the population. The Umbrella Security Service was sent into Raccoon to secure corporate assets and destroy any evidence that could potentially incriminate the company. Dylan Blake and J.J. were assigned to one such unit, but their superiors hadn't divulged the full situation and the soldiers were unaware that the citizens of Raccoon had been transformed into the living dead.
At some point during the operation, Dylan, J.J. and the rest of their unit took refuge inside a meat processing plant. With the exception of J.J. and Dylan, all of the unit members had been wounded by zombies and had become infected. When Dylan contacted Umbrella Headquarters over the radio, he was ordered to quarantine the wounded. Later, he and J.J. were ordered to eliminate any and all infected, which included the wounded members of their team. Dylan objected to this, but soon his injured comrades succumbed to the T-Virus and turned into zombies themselves. As the infected soldiers bashed against the window between the meat locker and the adjacent storage room, J.J. readied his sub-machine gun.
J.J. opened fire on his infected comrades and put them down, but was bitten himself during the struggle. Meanwhile, Dylan was curled up on the floor screaming as his zombified friends were slaughtered. After the zombies were eliminated, Dylan contacted Umbrella HQ once more, requesting medevac. His request was denied and he was ordered to eliminate all remaining infected in the vicinity, but now the only remaining infected was J.J.. A struggle ensued between Dylan and J.J. that resulted in J.J. shooting Dylan in the leg. Having exhausted his ammunition, all J.J. could do was plead for mercy. However, Dylan - ridden with guilt for what he was about to do - was determined to carry out his last order. He picked up a metal box and brought it down upon J.J.'s head, bashing his brains in.
Dylan would eventually be evacuated from Raccoon before the city was ultimately sterilized via missile strike, but was left physically and mentally damaged by his ordeal. His leg had suffered severe nerve damage from automatic fire, requiring him to walk with a cane for the remainder of his life. He was left with post-traumatic stress and suicidal mania while developing a deep resentment towards corporate and government entities who allowed disasters such as the Raccoon Incident to happen, coming to believe that there was no justice in the world.
Bioterror activities[]
Blake became associated with A-GUA Industries during the War on Terror because Glenn Arias, a rogue ex-CIA agent engaged in the trading of bioweapons on the black market, was running it as its commercial front. Blake eventually used his contacts to thoroughly investigate the NGO organization TerraSave, the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, and the Division of Security Operations, uncovering corruption within each organization and growing to believe that they were to blame for the escalation of the War on Terror. Blake took particular interest in Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy, fellow survivors of the Raccoon City Incident who had since joined various military and government organizations and had since been involved in dozens of bioterror incidents globally in the years since, considering them as their 'pawns'.
After Arias and Diego Gomez died in the 2014 bioterrorism incident in New York, Blake took over Arias' business and would recruit Maria Gomez to his cause. In contrast to Arias, who sought vengeance against the US government after his wife was killed in a CIA-planned drone strike, Blake wanted to "clean the slate" of society. Blake and Gómez would use experimental mosquito drones as a way to infect individuals with a non-transmissable strain of the T-Virus, turning them into zombies which could be euthanized without causing an outbreak.
2015[]
By 2015, Blake had successfully abducted Dr. Antonio Taylor, a DARPA robotics engineer, with the aid of Gomez and his mercenaries. Blake then used threats to persuade Dr. Taylor into aiding in the research and production of his mosquito drones. The prototypes were finished, and mass manufacture of the weapons was beginning. The initial test subjects were tourists to Alcatraz Island who were exposed to low virus loads while there. The BSAA, the San Francisco Police Department, and TerraSave were swiftly alerted to the increasing number of cannibalistic killings in the area of San Francisco as well as the release of the Megalodon bioweapon into seas that were under environmental protection.
Blake identified Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield during an investigation on Alcatraz and launched the drones with a greater load intended to selectively infect targeted victims. As infected tourists begin killing others and uninfected people became the target of the infection, the prison site fell into chaos, much to the trio's surprise as they failed to save any of the tourists. Blake also gave the order to let a horde of Amphibious Lickers loose in the prison's sewers. Dr. Taylor would seize the chance to escape captivity shortly after that. After receiving current information on Taylor's whereabouts at Alcatraz, DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy traveled to the island. Kennedy teamed up with Valentine, and the two discovered Blake's secret hideout, which was located deep below the prison's disused munition tunnels. Blake called out for the two to come back to the prison block where he had already taken Taylor and the now-infected Redfield siblings.
Once everyone had gathered at the prison block, Blake eventually revealed that he and Gomez were the culprits and that everyone had been infected except for Valentine and Taylor. Blake declared his intentions to cleanse the world and used the examples of Kennedy's continued willingness to work for the government despite their numerous cover-ups, Claire's employment by an NGO that only offers assistance after the fact rather than taking direct action to target and stop bioterrorism before it happens, and Chris's pattern of losing teammates on every mission while still bringing more people to replace them as proof for his point. By giving Jill the option of killing an infected Claire or letting Dr. Taylor die at her hands, Blake forced her to go through the same experience he had in order to save her from infection. Instead of making a choice, Blake shot Taylor in the chest, sending Jill running as Blake and Gomez carried out their final plan, which called for the release of the bio-drones all across the world.

Dylan after merging with the Megalodon
Blake gave Gomez instructions to release the floodgates at the armoury, where he summoned the Megalodon bioweapon. Outside, Jill confronted Blake, who declared his intention to seek vengeance for killing J.J., injecting himself with a T-Virus variant, and allowing the Megalodon to eat him. When consumed by the Megalodon, Blake merged with the creature, becoming a giant monster known as "Dygalodon."
Final battle and death[]
Jill was joined by Leon, Chris and Claire, as well as Rebecca Chambers, who had vaccinated the others. Inside the armoury, they witnessed the Dygalodon emerge from the water, which then attacked them. The team had an abundance of weapons at their disposal in Blake's armoury, but the mutant creature was too large and strong, simply shrugging off whatever firepower was thrown at him. Jill was able to inflict some serious damage on Dylan using an experimental plasma rifle, but the weapon took a long time to charge between shots. The Dygalodon was bisected by the plasma discharge, but destroyed the weapon before it could be charged to fire another shot.
While Jill, Chris and Leon kept the Dygalodon busy, Claire and Rebecca had gone to Dylan's control center to hack into the bio-drones, reprogramming them to attack the mutated Dylan and inject him with large amounts of T-Virus, which caused the creature to start decaying and breaking down quickly. Dylan makes an effort to escape into open sea, contaminating the area's water supply, but Jill got his attention long enough for Leon and Chris to put together an artillery missile launcher. Before Jill jumped into the water and strapped explosive packs into his mouth, she yelled at Blake for his inability to cope with his own guilt. Leon and Chris launched the missile at the gate's opening, whereupon it fell upon the monster and imprisoned it. Unable to move, the Dygalodon could do nothing as the explosives went off, destroying the creature once and for all.
