Eric Busmalis (portrayed by Adam Cantor) is a hidden antagonist in the action-thriller film The Purge: Election Year. He was a supporter of the New Founding Fathers of America and believed in the purpose behind the Annual Purge. In 2040, Senator Charlie Roan sought to run for the office of President with the intention of abolishing the Purge. Seeing her as a threat, the NFFA had Eric and Chief Couper planted in Roan's security detail to spy on her and arrange for her assassination. They also revoked the long-standing Purge rule that granted immunity to government officials during the event.
Death[]
On the night of March 21st 2040, Eric and Couper were among the security detail assigned to protect Senator Roan in her home. They sabotaged the surveillance system and signalled a group of mercenaries led by Earl Danzinger to breach the house, killing all of the guards along the way. However, Leo Barnes discovered the betrayal and was able to lead the Senator out of the building via a hidden trap-door in her study. He had booby-trapped the laptop he had been working from, leaving it for the mercenaries to find. When the mercenaries entered the study to find Barnes and Roan gone, Eric opened the laptop to inspect it. The laptop exploded, killing Eric, Couper and several of Danzinger's men.
