Gotham S5

This article lists the various background/minor character deaths that occur in Season 5 of Gotham.

1. Year Zero[]

  • A police officer approaches the gate to the GCPD's controlled territory. Sliding open the window on the gate, the cop sees that it is Jonathan Crane - the Scarecrow - standing on the other side. Through the window slot, Scarecrow sprays the cop with fear gas. He promises to make the cop's hallucinations stop if he opens the gate and the officer complies. Scarecrow keeps his word by murdering the officer, slashing him with a scythe.
  • While Penguin is dining in luxury, Arnold Penn informs him that one of his workers in the ammunition factory is dead. Apparently the worker passed out from hunger and fell into a hydraulic press.
  • A chopper carrying food and medicine is shot down over an area controlled by the Lo Boyz gang. The chopper pilot is never seen following the crash, so his fate is uncertain.
  • The Penguin arrives at the chopper's crash site where the Lo Boyz are in the middle of taking the supplies for themselves. When the Lo Boyz leader refuses to cooperate, he is shot dead by Penguin's men. The other Lo Boyz quickly scatter and run away.
  • While Jim Gordon's men and Penguin's gang are caught in a standoff, Tabitha Galavan enters the warehouse and kills two of Penguin's goons by shooting them with a crossbow.
  • Tabitha kills one more of Penguin's men by sneaking up behind him and slitting his throat.
  • After witnessing Tabitha get stabbed, Barbara flies into a rage and starts shooting at Penguin, leading to a shootout between her, Penguin's goons and the GCPD. One police officer is shot dead in the exchange.
  • Just as Penguin gloats over how the police are out of ammunition, Bullock shoots two of his remaining goons and hits Penguin in the leg. Bruce had managed to knock out the thugs guarding Penguin's truck and stole some ammunition from it to give to Gordon and Bullock.

2. Trespassers[]

  • At the start of the episode, Bullock is examining the young boy Will Thomas while Gordon explains the boy's background. A few weeks after Gotham's bridges were destroyed, Will's parents were murdered during a home invasion and Will himself was abducted and sold into slavery.
  • Bruce enters a building where a supposed "witch" resides, hoping to find something to help Selina walk again. Inside the building, he sees three bodies that have been wrapped in creeping vines, indicating that the so-called witch is Ivy Pepper.
  • As Jim and Bullock drive a truck into the Dark Zone, they spot four bodies hanging by their necks from a bridge.
  • The GCPD hold Sykes and his Soothsayers at gunpoint while Jim frees their enslaved children. As Jim comes out again, a firefight has begun, resulting in three Soothsayers being killed.
  • After taking refuge in a seemingly abandoned hotel, Jim and Bullock split up to investigate. Bullock goes down to the basement to find a horror show: a dining table is set with numerous platters holding the jewelry, pulled teeth and severed fingers of an unknown number of people. Bullock looks towards a lit fireplace and is terrified to find the bones of the victims resting in the flames.
  • Bruce takes Ivy out of the cell she had been locked in. Upon being freed, she immediately attacks and kills the three men who had imprisoned her. She scratches two with her nails, poisoning them, and takes a machete from one of them to kill the last man.
  • Riddler and his captive, Tank, arrive at the lair of the Street Demonz gang. Inside, they find three dead bodies with knives in their backs, including that of the gang's leader Emmanuel Vasquez.
  • Gordon and Bullock find themselves caught between the Soothsayers and the Undead, both gangs wanting to claim the bounty Penguin put on Gordon. As the two gangs close in, an armoured truck appears behind the Undead and guns down all six members of the gang and all of the Soothsayers apart from Sykes.

3. Penguin, Our Hero[]

  • As Penguin is about to be served breakfast, a trio of Street Demonz burst into his office, pushing the servers to the floor and firing in Penguin's direction. Penguin's bodyguard is killed and one of his choir singers takes a bullet in the arm.
  • One of the three Street Demonz is shot dead by Penguin.
  • The day after the attempt on his life, Penguin awakes to find that his staff and guards have abandoned him and fled to Haven. He decides to unchain the two imprisoned Street Demonz so they can help him rally an army to attack Haven. However, only the Demonz leader is still alive; his accomplice had bled to death while he was chained up.
  • As Bruce and Selina are walking through an empty street in the Dark Zone, they come across a man's corpse sitting in a car. The man's throat has been cut and the word 'KILL' has been carved into his chest.
  • Right after spotting the corpse in the car, Bruce and Selina see a man running towards them, begging for help. The man's arms have been bound with duct tape. As the man staggers around, Bruce and Selina see that an explosive device has been taped to his back. The teens take cover behind the car door as the bomb goes off, not only killing the man it was tied to but spraying the surrounding area with nails.
  • Bruce and Selina find a church where Jeremiah Valeska has been gathering followers. After he and Selina split up, Bruce investigates a darkened room. Inside, he finds over a dozen dead bodies on the floor, all with bullet holes in their heads.
  • Ecco leads Selina and seven pilgrims into a baptism chamber where she presents each of the would-be acolytes with a set of revolvers. Each pilgrim is given a gun and a single bullet and play Russian roulette as a show of faith, aiming at the person stood next to them. In the end, four of the pilgrims plus Selina are still standing.
  • Gordon and Penguin manage to escape from their cell and acquire weapons. They enter the cafeteria from opposite ends and threaten the gangsters inside. The Street Demonz leader isn't worried, believing that Gordon is bluffing when he warns the gangsters to lay down their arms. However, Penguin assures them all that it's no bluff as he shoots the leader and one other gangster dead with his assault rifle.
  • At the end of the episode, as Barbara threatens to shoot Gordon to get to Penguin, several bombs go off inside Haven, killing an unknown number of refugees.

4. Ruin[]

  • Picking up where the previous episode left off, Haven is left in ruins after several bombs went off inside. After the fires are put out, Gordon reports to the Secretary of Homeland Security, stating that 311 people died in the bombing with a further 22 people unaccounted for.
  • Gordon visits the Sirens to question Barbara about the bombing. As he arrives, he sees two women dragging a man's body outside.
  • Inside Jeremiah's hideout, Selina, disguised as one of Jeremiah's minions, gets close to the cult leader and stabs him. Bruce and Alfred arrive to help Selina just as Jeremiah's followers attack them. One cultist is shot dead by Alfred.
  • Nygma learns that an elderly, disabled woman living across the street from Haven witnessed its destruction. After confronting the woman, Nygma is struck with the revelation that he - or rather his alter-ego The Riddler - was responsible. To ensure that the old lady doesn't talk to anyone else, Nygma pushes her wheelchair towards the window and throws her out of it, resulting in her falling to her death.

5. Pena Dura[]

  • Gordon and Bullock pay a visit to the arms dealer who sold the rocket launcher responsible for destroying Haven. The dealer doesn't take kindly to Gordon's questions and summons several henchmen to kill him and Bullock. Suddenly, the skylight shatters and a paramilitary unit led by Eduardo Dorrence abseil down into the building, gunning down all of the thugs. The dealer attempts to slit Gordon's throat, but is shot in the head by Eduardo himself.
