Gus Colyard was a minor character from the horror movie Saw II. He was one of eight individuals to be abducted by the Jigsaw Killer and forced to participate in one of his murderous games. He would also appear in flashbacks in the sequels Saw III, Saw IV and Saw V.
History[]
Gus was a businessman who had a history of drug addiction. During the 1990's, he was arrested by corrupt police detective Eric Matthews who had falsely incriminated him by providing fake evidence in court. Gus was sentenced to prison for an unknown number of years.
After he was finally released, Gus checked into the Homeward Bound Clinic, a recovery clinic run by Jill Tuck. At one point during his rehabilitation, he got into a fistfight with fellow patient Cecil Adams and had to be separated by John Kramer. John, who was actually Jigsaw, used his position in the clinic to gather information on patients, later selecting them to participate in his murderous games. He chose Gus based not only on his drug addiction, but also on his connection to Detective Matthews.
In 2005, Gus and seven other individuals - including Detective Matthews' son Daniel - were abducted by Jigsaw and placed in a run-down house that had been rigged with various traps. The captives had been rendered unconscious during their abductions and all awoke to find themselves in a locked room with a safe. As most of the group looked around with confusion and terror, Amanda Young uncovered a hidden tape recorder which contained a message and series of instructions from Jigsaw. The recording stated that a nerve gas had been pumped into the house and would kill the captives within two hours, but there were several syringes around the house containing an antidote. One of these syringes was contained in the safe. They were informed that they all possessed the combination as the numbers were "in the back of their mind" and that the clue to the right order could be found "over the rainbow." Additionally, Jigsaw revealed that they were all connected and told them that the clue to this connection was marked with an "X."
Death[]
Gus would be the first of the gas house victims to die. After locating a key to the door, Xavier Chavez - ignoring Jigsaw's warning - decided to try and open the door. Amanda tried warning Xavier against this, but he dismissed her. As Xavier worked with the key, Gus looked through a peephole in the door, but saw nothing. When Xavier unlocked the door, he slowly opened it and was shocked to hear the sound of a gunshot and see Gus falling dead to the floor, a bloody hole where his left eye used to be. When Xavier opened the door and stepped out, he saw that the door had a revolver rigged to it, which had fired through the peephole once the door opened.
