Howard Saint was the main antagonist of the 2004 film The Punisher. He was a corrupt businessman and a powerful mob boss, involved in trafficking weapons and drugs throughout the state of Florida. He was portrayed by John Travolta.

History[]

After his son Bobby was killed during an FBI raid led by Frank Castle, Howard demanded revenge and sent a team of hitmen to assassinate Castle and his entire family. After the massacre, Howard was pleased and went back to business as usual, but a group of Cuban gangsters came to him to inform him that a large cash shipment had been lost. Howard realised that Frank Castle was still alive and was plotting to take revenge against him, so he hired the assassins Harry Heck and The Russian to kill him.

Meanwhile, Castle, with the aid of the criminal Mickey Duka (who has his own reasons for hating the Saints), makes Howard believe that his wife Livia is cheating on him with his best friend Quentin Glass (who is actually homosexual) with false evidence planted by Castle, found by Saint himself. Howard believes he has a confirmation of the two's affair when he finds Livia's earring on Quentin's pillow in his home (actually planted by Castle). After a confrontation, Howard kills Quentin, with the latter not knowing why. Later he kills his wife Livia.

Death[]

When they meet face-to-face, Castle guns Howard down in a duel due to his superior reflex. Before Frank ends his life, he reveals that he had been manipulating Howard the whole time about the fake affair. As Howard sobs tearfully for his mistakes and cruel life, he is eventually killed when Frank ties him to the back of a slow-moving car which drags him through a car park filled with exploding bombs, incinerating him.
