Ian McKinley was a supporting character in the horror film Final Destination 3. He was a survivor of the Devil's Flight roller coaster derailment and the seventh survivor to die in the film.
History[]
Ian was a resident of McKinley, Pennsylvania, attending the local high school and working at the Build It hardware store along with his girlfriend Erin Ulmer. Both teens were known Goths as well as being very sarcastic. Ian was particularly annoyed by the fact that his surname was also the name of his hometown and high school.
In May 2005, Erin and Ian were among several senior students from McKinley High School to attend a field trip to an amusement park. They boarded the Devil's Flight roller coaster as classmate Wendy Christensen began freaking out, claiming that the ride was going to derail. As Wendy and Kevin Fischer got off the ride, Lewis Romero started making fun of Wendy, leading to a fight between him and Kevin. As the boys fought, Lewis accidentally slapped Erin in the face, leading to Ian attacking him. The group were then forced to leave the ride, but moments later Wendy's vision came true. The roller coaster derailed and everyone who was on it at the time was killed.
Several weeks after the disaster, the survivors who had gotten off the ride began to die one by one in a series of bizarre accidents. Wendy and Kevin began investigating the phenomenon and drew parallels between these incidents and the Flight 180 disaster and Route 23 pileup. Realizing that Death had a plan, they tried to warn the other Devil's Flight survivors.
Wendy and Kevin would visit Ian and Erin at their workplace to warn them that Death was still after them, and they were next on Death's list. However, Ian and Erin were extremely skeptical and mocked them. As they talked, Ian accidentally caused a box to fall off a shelf and onto a forklift's gear shift. Unbeknownst to them, the forklift slowly began to follow them throughout the store, and impaled a large shelf. A hammer fell off the shelf and hit the controls, causing the forklift to raise the shelf. It slowly began to rise into the air, and pressed against a set of ladders. After much force, the ladders finally snapped, knocking down several planks of wood.
Wendy pushed Ian out of the way at the last second. Soon after, all of the other items on the shelf began to fall as well, and a wooden board landed on top of the end of a plank and was sent flying through the air, puncturing a bag of sawdust which sprayed Erin in the eyes. She stumbled back against a nail gun that Ian had left on a set of boxes and it activated, rapidly discharging several nails into her head and hand. Ian watched Erin's demise and was horrified, but more than that, he resented Wendy and believed that Erin's death was her fault.
Death[]
On the day of the McKinley tricentennial fair, Ian followed Wendy to the event, believing that he was meant to cause her death. He confronted Wendy, Kevin and Julie, who told him that if he didn't kill Wendy, all of them would be spared. Ian was convinced that Death had already skipped him anyway, so he would be fine whether he killed Wendy or not. Before he could do so, a set of fireworks went off and launched in their direction, barely missing Ian. The rockets struck a cherry picker behind Ian, which then collapsed and crushed him, also bisecting him in the process.
