J.W. Woods Jr. is a supporting character in the sci-fi thriller film Virus. He is portrayed by Marshall Bell.
History[]
Woods served under Captain Robert Everton as the helmsman of the tugboat Sea Star. Though competent in his job, he proved to be quite cowardly in the face of danger and would often complain during bad situations.
When the Sea Star came across the Akademik Vladislav Volkov in international waters, the Volkov's anchor was dropped thanks to an unknown influence and smashed straight through the Sea Star's deck. As the tugboat began to sink, Woods jumped and swam for the Volkov, leaving his shipmate Hiko to die. While Steve Baker dove into the water and saved Hiko, Woods' cowardice earned him the ire of the rest of the crew from that point on.
After Woods and Richie Mason entered one of the ship's machine shops, Woods was shot in the shoulder by a small robot carrying a nail gun. The pair then encountered a bio-mechanical creature that tried to kill them, but they managed to overpower it and brought it up to the bridge to show the crew. They then went down to the ship's engine room where their shipmate Squeaky had been left, fearing that he might be in danger.
Death[]
When the Sea Star crew next saw Squeaky, he had been turned into a cybernetic drone by the electrical entity that had infested the ship's electronic systems. Squeaky was accompanied by a larger robot that shrugged off gunfire. Squeaky grabbed Woods and held him up with both arms, allowing the large robot to kill Woods by punching straight through his torso, disemboweling him.
