Jack MacReady is a supporting character in James Gunn's comedy-horror film Slither. He is the foul-mouthed, uneducated mayor of the small Iowa town of Wheelsy where the film takes place. He is portrayed by Gregg Henry.
History[]
In the wake of a series of animal killings carried out by Grant Grant, police chief Bill Pardy and Mayor MacReady round up a posse to track down Grant and find the missing Brenda Gutierrez. Sure enough, they find Brenda, but she has been turned into a breeder by the alien creature that has taken over Grant. Her parasitic offspring tear their way out of her and MacReady is shocked and horrified as he watches the swarm of alien worms slither towards town. Aside from MacReady, Starla and Pardy, the rest of the posse have been infected by the parasites and the remaining trio flee back to town.
After returning to town, our unlikely heroes run afoul of the townsfolk who have all been infested with the worms. MacReady is separated from the others and captured by the "worm-heads" and taken to Grant and Starla's house where the mutant Grant has continued to change and grow as he adds the biomass of multiple townsfolk to himself.
Death[]
MacReady wakes up in Grant's basement to find several townspeople feeding on the bodies of animals and people alike, having been turned into breeders. MacReady tries to escape, but when he opens the cellar door, he gets stabbed by Grant's twin proboscis, causing him to develop an uncontrollable hunger as he joins the other breeders in their feeding frenzy. Bill later arrives at the house and finds MacReady eating a corpse. MacReady begs Bill to kill him and Bill obliges by shooting him in the head.
