During the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Dr. Holden Radcliffe and Aida built a Life-Model Decoy of then-S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Jeffrey Mace. This replica infiltrated the Playground along with LMD's of Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Alphonso Mackenzie as part of a plan to execute several known Inhumans for Anton Ivanov.

History[]

The Man Behind the Shield[]

When S.H.I.E.L.D. launched an operation to Russia to rescue Jeffrey Mace from the Watchdogs, the agents on the mission split up to search the SVR facility and find the Director. After the team had split up, Coulson, Fitz and Mack were ambushed and captured by Aida, who replaced the three of them with Life-Model Decoys. They, as well as the real Director Mace, were relocated to a submarine which fled shortly after. While Aida would plug the captives into the virtual environment of the Framework, the LMD's would return to the Playground and enact a plan to bring all known Inhumans on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s watchlist to one place where they could all be executed with ease.

Self Control[]

After returning to the Playground, the LMD's began planning to have the various Inhumans across the United States brought to them under the guise of protection from the Watchdogs, when in fact they intended to execute them as part of a deal with the Superior. However, Jemma Simmons noticed that the androids' entry into the base set off an alarm device designed to detect LMD's and attempted to undermine their plan. Daisy Johnson would also discover the deception and work together with Simmons.

After the inactive Fitz LMD was discovered by three agents, the Coulson LMD murdered them before they could alert the rest of the Playground personnel. Mace then alerted the base, telling everyone that it was Simmons and Daisy who had been replaced with LMD's and ordering all agents to neutralize them without killing them. However, Quake used a remote-controlled bomb to release sleeping gas throughout the base, knocking out all of the human personnel. The power was then cut, but the LMD's optics allowed them to see in the dark.

As Mace's LMD explored the wreckage of the base, he was suddenly shot multiple times by Quake using Mack's Shotgun-Axe, all of which he was unharmed by. Quake then attempted to strike him with the axe blade, only for the Mace LMD to catch it midair, disarming Quake and knocking her down. The pair then engaged in a fight in which Quake soon proved herself to be the superior fighter, using her own Inhuman powers to give herself even more of an edge against Mace's LMD. Mace insisted that the LMD's didn't want to harm her and that they only wanted to plug her into the Framework so that she could live a happier life. Quake didn't listen and continued to beat the android with whatever object was nearby, eventually grabbing an electrical device that short-circuited the Mace LMD, deactivating him. Shortly after Mace was defeated, the Playground was destroyed by a bomb rigged by Melinda May's LMD, ensuring that Mace wouldn't ever be reactivated.
