Julian Sands as the original Jor-El
Jor-El is a supporting character in the television series Smallville. Like other versions of the character, he was the biological father of Clark Kent/Kal-El and was Krypton's greatest scientist during the planet's final years. He had sent his infant son away in a small spacecraft both to save him from Krypton's destruction and to give Earth a champion that would protect and guide humanity.
As with other incarnations, this version of Jor-El died when Krypton was destroyed. His consciousness had been duplicated as an artificial intelligence housed within the Fortress of Solitude which would mentor Clark during his journey to becoming Superman. However, years before the death of Krypton, Jor-El had inserted his DNA into a crystalline orb, along with that of Zod and several Kandorian soldiers. At the end of Season 8, the orb was activated by Tess Mercer, releasing clones of Zod and his followers into the world. Jor-El, of course, also emerged from the orb, but appeared in another part of the globe.
Throughout the series, the Jor-El AI, which is merely a disembodied voice within the Fortress, is voiced by Terence Stamp. In the Season 9 episode "Kandor", both the real Jor-El (shown in flashbacks) and his clone are portrayed by Julian Sands.
Season 9[]
After Jor-El's clone was released from the orb, he went to the Kent Farm. He only had memories of his life before he put his blood into the orb along with Major Zod. He displayed sadness by the destruction of Krypton, the death of his wife Lara, and his son growing up without his people. He trusted Chloe Sullivan and knocked her unconscious for her own safety when he sensed danger in the barn. He was confronted by Zod's clone and tried to explain that the real Zod was responsible for Krypton's destruction. He told Zod of what he would become and though Zod refused to believe him, he realized that Jor-El had to get this information somewhere- someone from Krypton. The Kandorians released Jor-El but when he arrived at the Kent Farm, he was mortally beaten. He died in Clark's arms after telling him he was proud of him; he also asked Clark to save Zod.
