K'mpec (portrayed by Charles Cooper) was the supreme chancellor of the Klingon Empire in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was the longest serving leader in the Empire's history until his death in 2367. He appeared in the third season episode "Sins of the Father" where he discommended Worf following allegations that Worf's father Mogh was a traitor. In the fourth season episode "Reunion", K'mpec meets with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and reveals that one of the candidates for succession to the Klingon throne has secretly been poisoning him steadily over a number of months. K'mpec names Picard as his Arbiter of Succession, tasking him with finding the assassin and ensuring that he never becomes chancellor. K'mpec then enjoys a final drink in his quarters before succumbing to the poison.
