Kung Lao is a heroic character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. He is a member of the White Lotus Society along with fellow Shaolin monk Liu Kang, chosen by the thunder god Raiden to defend Earthrealm in the Mortal Kombat tournament. He is also the direct descendant of the Great Kung Lao, who fell in battle to the monstrous Shokan warrior Goro.
Kung Lao is somewhat envious of Liu Kang's status as the prophecized "Chosen One" of their order, but has always supported his brother-in-arms as they have fought to defend Earthrealm from otherworldly forces. He is best known for his unconventional fighting method of using his hat as a weapon; the headpiece is a razor-rimmed chakram that is thrown like a discus, soaring through the air and slicing through an opponent's flesh.
