"LX-13" is the designation given to an imperfect clone of Lex Luthor that appears in the Smallville episode "Lazarus". He was one of several genetic duplicates produced by Cadmus Labs to be used as a donor to help heal Lex after the grave injuries he suffered following his conflict with Clark Kent at the end of Season 7. However, this clone proved to be unstable as he aged at an accelerated rate. He was portrayed by Mackenzie Gray.
History[]
After being horrifically injured by Zod, Tess Mercer was taken to Metropolis General Hospital for treatment. However, she was pronounced dead hours later and her body was taken to Cadmus Labs by an unknown party.
Some time later, Tess awoke alive and well in Cadmus, finding herself in a room filled with specimen tanks containing clones of Lex Luthor. A young clone referring to himself as "Alexander" tried to lead Tess out of the lab, but Tess noticed a partially opened tank with its occupant trying to get out. Tess went to help, but "Alexander" warned her that that clone was the "bad one". Once free, this clone - LX-13 - set about burning down the laboratory, deciding that there could only be one Lex Luthor. Though the lab was destroyed, Tess and the young clone managed to escape.
After changing into his template's original attire, LX-13 visited the Kent Farm where he attacked Lois Lane. He knocked her out and tied her to a post in the middle of a corn field, the same place where Clark had once been strung up by bullies during his freshman year at Smallville High School. LX-13 then set the field ablaze, leaving Lois to die in order to break Clark's spirit.
Later, LX-13 met with Clark, blaming him for everything that happened in Lex's life. Angered by the clone's words, Clark attempted to strangle him, but then saw his nose begin to bleed. LX-13 revealed that he was already dying due to a mutation in his body, and for his one act of revenge against Clark, he wanted to force him to make an impossible choice. As well as leaving Lois to burn to death in Lawson's Field, he had planted a bomb on the roof of the Daily Planet. Clark had the choice of saving the woman he loved or countless innocents who would be crushed to death by the Planet's falling globe. LX-13 would ultimately die before seeing Clark's greatest failure come to pass, but Clark ultimately proved him wrong as he was fast enough to save Lois and the civilians in time.
