Lor San Tekka is a minor character from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. He is a member of the Church of the Force and a sympathizer with the Resistance. He is portrayed by Max von Sydow.
History[]
While his background is not revealed in the film itself, Tekka's history is explored in various literary titles. He followed in the Church of the Force, a religious order that helped to restore faith in the Force following the collapse of the Galactic Empire. When the First Order arose from the Empire's remains, Tekka gave his support to the New Republic and the Resistance. When Luke Skywalker went into exile, Tekka retired to the planet Jakku and settled in a spiritual village. While there, he would discover a fragment of a star map that would lead to the first Jedi temple which Luke had gone searching for.
Death[]
When the First Order discover the location of the map, Kylo Ren leads a battalion of stormtroopers to retrieve it. Tekka passes the map on to Resistance pilot Poe Dameron who then gives it to his astromech droid BB-8. BB-8 rolls off into the desert with the map as Kylo and his troops burn the village to the ground. Kylo interrogated Tekka, but the old man refused to tell him anything. Deciding that Tekka was of no further use, Kylo cut him down with his lightsaber.
