Marc was a villainous character in Season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appearing as the monster of the week in the episode "The Puppet Show". While he appeared human throughout most of the episode, he was actually a demon that needed to harvest human organs in order to maintain his disguise.
History[]
Marc was a member of a brotherhood of demons, seven in all, that lived among humanity by harvesting organs from their victims that they used to maintain their human forms. Their disguises would only last seven years before deteriorating, requiring them to kill and harvest again each seven-year cycle. At some point, the brotherhood was confronted by a demon hunter named Sid, but the group placed a curse upon him that trapped his soul within a ventriloquist's dummy.
Despite his handicap of being a puppet, Sid continued to pursue the brotherhood for years, managing to kill six of them. The last of them, Marc, would resurface in 1997, having disguised himself as a teenager and attended high school in Sunnydale, California. As the school was preparing to host a talent show, Marc entered with a stage magician act. He murdered fellow student Emily Djiemanowicz and cut out her heart, though he also required a brain. When the Scooby Gang started investigating Emily's murder, Marc redirected their suspicions towards Morgan Shay, a sickly student bringing a ventriloquist act to the talent show.
Marc later targeted Morgan in order to harvest his brain, but found that Morgan's brain was unsuitable for him due to a tumor. He then decided to target Rupert Giles, convincing him to participate in a magic act involving a guillotine. He strapped Giles into the device so that the blade would slice through his skull, but his attempt was interrupted by the Slayer, Buffy Summers.
Death[]
As the fight continued, Marc reverted to his true demonic form. Though powerful enough to overpower Buffy, his aggression left him exposed to Sid, who turned out to be the dummy Morgan was using in his act. Marc was kicked into the guillotine and beheaded when Xander Harris released the blade. Knowing decapitation alone would not kill him, Sid drove a knife through Marc's heart, destroying him and finally breaking his curse.
