Michael Eddington was a Starfleet security officer who was introduced in the third season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Originally assigned to DS9 because Starfleet did not trust the changeling security chief Odo, Eddington used his position to forward information of Starfleet ship movements to the Maquis and misled Captain Sisko with false information about them. His treachery was discovered in the fourth season episode "For the Cause", and he would be captured by Sisko and jailed in the fifth season episode "For the Uniform".

Eddington was portrayed by Kenneth Marshall.

Death[]

In the episode "Blaze of Glory", Eddington is released from prison by Captain Sisko in order to help him stop a series of Maquis missiles from hitting Cardassia, which by then had fallen under the protection of the Dominion. Eddington helped the captain reach the launch site, which as it happened, wasn't a launch site at all but the Maquis' fallback position. Most of the Maquis had been wiped out when the Dominion established themselves in Cardassian space, but a handful of survivors - including Eddington's wife Rebecca - were sheltered in the Bajoran Badlands. The missile strike was actually a ruse, a way of letting Eddington know that the Maquis were still alive.

As Sisko and Eddington escorted the Maquis survivors back to their runabout, they were pursued by Jem'Hadar troopers. Eddington was hit by a disruptor pulse, but held on long enough for Sisko to get the Maquis away. He stayed behind to hold off the Jem'Hadar, buying Sisko and the Maquis time to escape. He was soon overwhelmed by the Jem'Hadar and was struck down by a hail of disruptor fire.
