Michael Marks is a minor character in the horror film Saw II. He is a victim of the serial killer known as Jigsaw and the first character to die in the film.
History[]
Michael Marks was a young man who had been seeking recovery from drug addiction at the Homeward Bound Clinic. Unbeknownst to him, the clinic's manager Jill Tuck was gathering information on her patients and passing that information on to her ex-husband John Kramer, who was, in fact, the Jigsaw Killer. At some point during his rehabilitation, Michael met police detective Eric Matthews and started working for him as an informant. Because of this, Jigsaw targeted Michael and set up a deadly game for him.
Death[]
Michael was abducted by Jigsaw and rendered unconscious with anesthesia. While he was out cold, Dr. Lawrence Gordon conducted surgery on Michael, implanting a key into his eye socket behind the eyeball. Two hours after the surgery, Michael woke up inside a dimly-lit room, sporting a swollen eye and a strange device locked around his neck. As Michael called out for help, a TV in the room turned on, displaying Jigsaw's signature puppet Billy, with which he communicated with his victims. Jigsaw's distorted voice told Michael that the device on his neck was a death mask which would snap shut on his head unless he managed to unlock it. He clued Michael in on the location of the key, saying it was "right before your eyes". Michael noticed an X-ray lying on the stand beside his chair, showing a key located over the eye socket. Looking in the small mirror on the stand, he realized that the key was behind his own eye and that he would have to cut his eye out in order to retrieve it.
After the TV turned off, Michael attempted to remove the death mask by force. As he did so, a metal pin was pulled out of the device, starting the 60-second timer. Michael frantically looked around and found a toolbox on the floor containing a scalpel. He picked up the scalpel and tried to take it to his eye, but he found himself unable to go through with it. In his last few seconds, Michael cried out and screamed for help, but to no avail. The timer soon ran down and the death mask snapped shut, the nails on its interior piercing Michael's skull and killing him.
