Molly Harper was a main character in the 2011 horror film Final Destination 5. She was an employee of Presage Paper and a survivor of the 1999 North Bay Bridge collapse. Unlike the other survivors of that disaster, Molly was never actually meant to die during that event.

History[]

On April 26th 1999, Molly was joining several of her colleagues on a corporate retreat. As they were waiting for their bus, Molly spoke with her colleague/boyfriend Sam Lawton, telling him that she was breaking up with him. Later, on the bus, the group approached the North Bay Bridge when Sam experienced a premonition of the bridge collapsing, resulting in massive loss of life, including everyone on the bus - except for Molly. When Sam panicked, Molly and several others followed him off the bus. The bridge would collapse a moment later after they had gotten to a safe distance.

Following the bridge collapse, Molly met with the other survivors at the memorial service. Later, Sam stopped by Molly's house so they could talk and she revealed the reason why she broke up with him was so he would pursue his dream of going to Paris to be a chef. When Sam said he turned down the job so he could be with her, she convinced him to go without her.

The next day, Molly returned to work where she shared a drink with Sam, Peter, Nathan, and Olivia. Afterwards, Sam convinced Molly to go to Paris with him. After learning about Isaac's death, they rushed to the Ming Yung Spa where they met the mysterious William Bludworth who explained that Death was still after the survivors, and if they wished to cheat Death, they must kill someone else and take their remaining lifespan. Molly and Sam rushed to warn Olivia who had gone to the eye doctor to treat her myopic vision, but they arrived too late.

Afterwards, Molly and Sam tried to figure out the order of how they died on the bridge, and they deduced that Nathan was going to be next. Molly and Sam rushed over to find that Nathan had accidentally killed his co-worker Roy in a warehouse accident. Moments later, they witnessed the death of their boss Dennis.

Afterwards, Molly tried to convince Sam not to go to work, but Sam assured her that maybe something didn't want him to die, since he received the vision of the bridge collapse. Later that night, Sam reserved the restaurant for a date with Molly. An unstable Peter interrupted their date and attempted to kill Molly out of jealous of her intended survival.

FBI agent Jim Block arrived shortly after, but was killed by Peter. Nonetheless, he continued to pursue Molly and Sam to remove any witnesses. Just as Peter was about to stab Molly, Sam intervened by stabbing him in the back with a large skewer. In theory, this intervention would have added Molly to Death's list, since she was saved by a person on Death's list from someone who was not. However, Peter had only gotten his name erased from the list moments before. Because of that, it is entirely conceivable that Death itself would have saved Molly if Sam couldn't have done so.

Death[]

On May 13th 1999, Molly and Sam boarded the ill-fated Volée Airlines Flight 180 bound for Paris. Not long after boarding the plane, they witnessed a passenger being escorted off the plane after he began ranting about how he had seen a vision of the plane exploding. After witnessing the passenger's outburst, Molly and Sam became concerned, wondering if he had an experience like Sam had.

Shortly after taking off, the plane suffered a severe electrical malfunction and one of its engines exploded. Seconds later, the craft was ripped open and Molly was sucked outside. She died when she hit the plane's left wing stabilizer, being cut in half on impact.
