Nathaniel "Nathan" Sears was a main character in the 2011 horror film Final Destination 5. He was an employee of Presage Paper and a survivor of the North Bay Bridge collapse. He is the last character to die in the film.

History[]

On April 26th 1999, Nathan was due to attend a corporate retreat along with the staff of Presage's sales division. Prior to boarding the bus, he had gotten into an altercation with warehouse worker Roy Carson, who resented Nathan for being his boss when he was so much younger than him. Since Roy was head of the local union, Nathan couldn't fire him without incurring legal complications, something he lamented to Sam Lawton about as they got ready to leave for the retreat.

When the bus reached the North Bay Bridge on its way to the retreat, Sam suddenly experienced a premonition of the bridge collapsing, killing everyone on it. In a panic, he warned everyone on the bus to get off before vacating the bus himself. Nathan, along with Peter Friedkin, Molly Harper, Candice Hooper, Olivia Castle, Dennis Lapman and Isaac Palmer, followed after Sam. A moment later, the bridge collapsed just as Sam had foreseen.

Two days after the disaster, Nathan joined his surviving co-workers for a drink in the office as there was nothing they could do due to the loss of most of their staff. After finding out that Isaac had died during a spa treatment, the group headed to the Ming Yung Spa where they witnessed Isaac's body being removed from the premises by the mortician William Bludworth. Having seen Bludworth during the memorial service the previous day and heard his warning about Death not liking to be cheated, Peter asked him what he knew about what was happening to the survivors and if he had something to do with it. Bludworth explained that he merely cleaned up the mess after Death's game was over, but told the survivors that the only way that they could cheat Death again was to kill someone who wasn't fated to die during the bridge collapse.

After Olivia's death, Sam realized that Nathan was next on Death's list. Meanwhile, Nathan returned to the plant where he argued with Roy over the pay-cuts being issued to all the workers and accidentally killed him by shoving him in front of a lifting hook that was meant to strike Nathan. When Sam, Peter, and Molly arrived, he learned that he had claimed Roy's life, and they all witnessed Dennis's death shortly after.

Death[]

On May 13th 1999, Nathan was sitting in a bar enjoying a drink with John, one of the factory employees. As they toasted to Roy, John told Nathan that Roy likely wouldn't have lived to that day anyway because he was suffering from a brain aneurysm that would probably have burst by then. At that moment, Nathan realized that he was still in danger as he hadn't taken that much time from Roy. It was then that the landing gear from the exploding Volée Airlines Flight 180 suddenly crashed through the roof of the bar, crushing and obliterating Nathan.
