The Newborn is a creature that appears during the final act of Alien Resurrection. It is a mutant hybrid of human and Xenomorph, born as a byproduct of cloning experiments conducted aboard the USM Auriga. Rather than being born as a Chestburster from a human host, the Newborn was a live birth from the uterus of a mutated Xenomorph queen.
The Newborn differs from regular Xenomorphs in a number of ways. Its facial structure is similar to that of a human and it bears a pair of dark eyes sunken within deep sockets. Its body lacks the tail and mesoskeleton of a true Xenomorph and it does not have an inner jaw, instead possessing a long, winding tongue. The creature was born fully grown, standing at over 9 feet tall.
History[]
After being subdued by Xenomorphs, Ripley-8 was brought to the aliens' hive deep in the bowels of the Auriga. There, she saw Dr. Gediman - the man who had created her and studied her - cocooned to the wall, fanatically expressing his joy at witnessing the alien queen giving live birth. As Ripley and Gediman watched, the queen went through labour, screeching in pain as her offspring emerged from her uterus. The Newborn emerged fully grown and Gediman marvelled over it, considering it "beautiful".
However, the Newborn did not recognise the queen as its true mother and attacked her, killing her by tearing off her upper jaw. Instead, it saw Ripley as its mother, moving over to her and nuzzling at her affectionately. Dr. Gediman's mad ramblings caught the creature's attention and it moved over to him, angrily grabbing hold of the immobile doctor and biting off a portion of his skull and brain, killing him. While the Newborn was distracted with Gediman, Ripley managed to free herself and escape from the hive, making her way towards the smuggling ship Betty where the other survivors were attempting to take off.
Death[]
The Newborn pursued the fleeing Ripley to the Betty, and there cornered Annalee Call in the ship's cargo hold. After killing Distephano by crushing his head when he arrived to investigate, Ripley-8 once again appeared and convinced the creature to release Call unharmed. Using the Newborn's apparent devotion for her to her advantage, Ripley-8 distracted the creature as she used her acidic blood to burn a small hole in a nearby viewing window. The subsequent decompression blew the Newborn into space piecemeal through the tiny aperture, killing it.
