Dr. Niles Winthrop was a minor character from the television series Gotham, appearing in the Season 4 episode "The Demon's Head". He was a historian at the Gotham Natural History Museum who studied various ancient artifacts with the assistance of his grandson Alex.

History[]

After buying a 1st century embalming knife at auction, Bruce Wayne brought the artifact to Dr. Winthrop to be inspected. Both Winthrop and his grandson Alex took a keen interest in the knife and assured Bruce that they would have the results of the inspection the next day.

That night, Winthrop examined the ancient symbols carved into the knife's hilt, deciphering some of the text as reading "the Demon's Head". According to legend, a man known as Ra's al Ghul had managed to overcome death and possessed the ability to resurrect himself. Niles had Alex hide the knife in his office when an unexpected caller knocked upon his door.

Death[]

Niles opened the door to find a stranger (none other than Ra's al Ghul himself) barging into his lab. After whimsically looking over some of the objects in the room, Ra's turned to Winthrop and asked him about the knife that Bruce Wayne had brought to him. Niles refused to tell him where the knife was and Ra's responded grabbing the doctor and twisting his neck, killing him instantly.
