Nora Carpenter is a main character from the horror film Final Destination 2. She is the mother of Tim Carpenter and one of the survivors of the Route 23 pileup incident. She was the third survivor to die in the film.
History[]
On May 13th 2000, Nora was driving her son Tim to a dentist appointment when traffic was held up by Kimberly Corman, who had blocked the road onto Route 23 with her SUV. While the Carpenters waited for Officer Burke to get traffic moving again, a terrible accident occurred on the highway, resulting in the deaths of eighteen people. Little did Nora or her son know that Kimberly had just saved their lives, as they were fated to die in the pileup as well.
Kimberly and the other witnesses to the incident were brought into the police station for counseling and questioning. There, Kimberly explained that she had experienced a vision prior to the accident and had seen each of the people around her die. Invoking the Flight 180 tragedy of the previous year, Kimberly reminded the group how all of the survivors of that incident had died one by one under mysterious circumstances, convinced that the same thing was going to happen to them. While Tim was unnerved by this revelation, Nora dismissed it completely.
The day after the pileup, Nora took Tim for his dentist appointment. While Tim was in the dentist's office, Nora sat in the waiting room, unaware that Death was coming for her. The fish tank in the waiting room suddenly sprung a leak and water poured down over an electrical socket. The plug in the socket hadn't been pushed in all the way and the water leaking from the fish tank was creeping towards Nora's feet, threatening her with electrocution. However, she got up and walked away when she was startled by a pigeon that had crashed through the lobby window.
After leaving the dentist's office, Nora and Tim stepped outside and saw Kimberly and Officer Burke running towards them. Kimberly cried out "PIGEONS!", having seen an omen of pigeons earlier. Tim, still high on laughing gas, saw several pigeons on the ground and impulsively ran towards them, scaring them away. Some of the birds flew above a construction worker in a crane, and he accidentally hit a lever with his elbow, causing a heavy glass pane to fall onto the street below. When Nora tried to save him, a construction worker pulled her back, saving her. Tim looked up as the pane fell on him, crushing him to death.
Following Tim's death, Nora met with the other survivors at Officer Burke's apartment. There, Kimberly and Clear Rivers explained how they were going to cheat Death, deciding that they must work together in order to survive. However, Nora wasn't receptive to their ideas, having become depressed over the loss of her son and resenting Kimberly, believing that she was responsible for her son's death. While the other survivors went about trying to accident-proof the apartment, Nora decided to leave in order to plan Tim's funeral.
Death[]
Nora left Burke's apartment, followed by fellow survivor Eugene Dix, who also wasn't convinced that Death was out to get them. The pair entered an elevator that was also occupied by an elderly man carrying a basket full of prosthetic limbs. While standing in the elevator, Nora got a call on her cellphone from Officer Burke, who warned her that "a man with hooks" was going to kill her. Unaware that her hair was tangled in one of the prosthetic limbs, she quickly attempted to leave the elevator, but the hooks held her back, causing her to panic. Although Eugene and the elderly man tried to untangle her hair, she ran out of the elevator and the doors immediately closed on her neck.
Nora's body was lifted as the elevator rose. Eugene and the old man pulled Nora's head inward while Clear and Kat Jennings pulled Nora's body outward. As Kat, Clear, Eugene and the old man desperately tried to free her, the elevator continued to rise upwards until the force finally severed Nora's head from her body.
