Pete Anderson is an antagonistic character from Season 5 of The Walking Dead. He is a resident of Alexandria and the husband of Jessie Anderson with whom he has two sons. While appearing to be a friendly and welcoming person to Rick Grimes and his group when they arrive, Pete is actually a violent alcoholic and uses his pleasant facade to cover up the fact that he regularly beats his wife and children. He is portrayed by Corey Brill.
History[]
Prior to the zombie apocalypse, Pete had attended Art College, which was how he and Jessie met. They later married and had children and Pete became a surgeon in order to provide for them. During this time, Pete became abusive towards his family and suffered violent outbursts of anger. He sought psychiatric help for this, but the undead outbreak occurred and his therapy ceased. He and his family would later be relocated to Alexandria and Pete's surgical skills would make him a valuable commodity to the townspeople.
When Rick Grimes and his group arrived and Rick became the new constable, Pete was quick to welcome him and try and befriend him, though most likely only to throw off any suspicion of his abuse towards Jessie. Carol, however, informed Rick of Pete's abuse after Pete's youngest son Sam asked her for a gun to protect his mother. Rick spoke of this to Deanna Monroe, Alexandria's leader, but she stated that she knew of the abuse and did nothing to stop it because of Pete's value as a surgeon. Rick would later confront Pete in his house and the two of them got into a fistfight which spilled onto the street for all to see. Following this confrontation, Rick was confined and Pete was forced into a different house away from Jessie and their children.
Death[]
In the episode "Conquer", Pete becomes furious after being forcefully separated from his family and blamed Rick for everything that had happened. At night, he took Michonne's sword from her house and barged in on a meeting amongst the townsfolk to decide Rick's fate. Pete demanded that Rick and his group should leave and that they didn't belong there. When Reg Monroe steps between him and Rick, Pete slashes Reg's neck open, killing him. Abraham and Tobin tackle Pete to the ground and hold him, all while Pete shouts that this is Rick's fault and takes no responsibility himself. Deanna realises that Pete is a danger to the community and tells Rick to do what he must. Rick then draws his gun and executes Pete.
