Quan Chi is a villainous character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. He is a demonic sorcerer who hails from the Netherrealm, a bleak, hellish world populated by the souls of the damned. He serves the fallen Elder God Shinnok, a deity of death and corruption. Quan Chi is the primary antagonist of the animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. Throughout the film, he manipulates the revenant Scorpion into fulfilling his wishes so that he might release Shinnok from his eternal prison. He is voiced by Darin de Paul.
Biography[]
After Hanzo Hasashi is killed by Sub-Zero, his soul descends into the Netherrealm to face eternal torment. Fueled by vengeful rage over the slaughter of his clan, Hanzo frees himself from the chains that bind him, slaying his Oni tormentor and a horde of demons that stand between him and the floating isle in the distance. Upon this isle, Hanzo meets Quan Chi and demands to be returned to the mortal plane. The sorcerer is amused by Hanzo's boldness and offers him the chance for vengeance by having him fight in the Mortal Kombat tournament on Shang Tsung's island. There, he is to obtain the Amulet of Shinnok, which is the key to freeing the mad god from his imprisonment. Hanzo agrees, dubbing himself "Scorpion".
During the tournament, Scorpion takes the opportunity to fight Sub-Zero and kills him by tackling him off the edge of a bridge, sending them both plunging into a pit of spikes. It is then that Quan Chi appears before Scorpion and admits that he had led the massacre of the Shirai Ryu himself. Scorpion then pulls himself off of the spike and follows Quan Chi to Shang Tsung's palace where he interrupts the battle between Liu Kang and Goro, killing the Shokan warrior. Shang Tsung tries to pit Scorpion and Liu Kang against each other, but Scorpion takes the sorcerer hostage and forfeits his status as a contender, securing Kang's victory. The spectral ninja then confronts Quan Chi as the palace begins to collapse.
Death[]
As Shang Tsung's palace starts to crumble around them, Scorpion and Quan Chi engage in a duel to the death. Although Quan Chi possesses great magical power, Scorpion appears to be the more experienced fighter, using all of his ninja skills as well as his newfound spectral powers to maximum effect. Scorpion uses his swords to cut off both of Quan Chi's arms, leaving the sorcerer defenceless. As the undead ninja closes in to finish the job, Quan Chi states that his god Shinnok will avenge him. Scorpion retorts "Damn your god!" before using his bare hands to rip off Quan Chi's head and upper spinal cord. He then takes off his mask and breathe a stream of hellfire to burn Quan Chi's headless corpse before tossing the sorcerer's head into the fire as well.
