Rinic Pralanoth was a supporting character in the third season of Farscape, appearing in the episode "Thanks For Sharing". He was the ruler of the planet Kalvia with his son and daughter acting as directors of security. He required artificial life support to supply him with oxygen for breathing. He was portrayed by Robert Brunning.
History[]
When the crew of Moya arrived on Kalvia hoping to acquire chromextin to heal the wounded Talyn, Crichton met with Pralanoth to assure him that he and his friends posed no threat, subjecting himself to interrogation via a Stranit. The Stranit creature could detect falsehoods and would kill liars, but Crichton spoke truthfully.
Following an assassination attempt on Sarova, Crichton (or rather his twin who was formed following his encounter with Kaarvok) subjected himself to the Stranit and passed again. He also accused Tolven of poisoning their chromextin supply but Tolven denied this, subjecting himself to the Stranit to prove it. Crichton still wasn't convinced and Pralanoth admitted that a disciplined mind could be capable of fooling the Stranit, so Crichton then asked if Tolven was truly loyal to his father, having heard from Sarova of Tolven's desire for power. Tolven professed his loyalty, but the Stranit caught him in a lie and killed him. Pralanoth was distraught over the loss of his son, but moreso over his betrayal and allowed Crichton to leave. However, Sarova then attacked Pralanoth and pulled out the oxygen tube on his life support device, causing him to suffocate. She then ordered planetary defences to open fire on Moya and Talyn, forcing them to make a hasty retreat.
Following Pralanoth's death, it is revealed that a shape-shifting creature had assumed Sarova's identity and was the one responsible not only for the deaths of Pralanoth and the real Sarova, but also for poisoning the chromextin.
