Rosita Espinosa was a major recurring character in the survival-horror series The Walking Dead. Introduced as a supporting character in Season 4, she would join Rick Grimes' group of apocalypse survivors in Season 5, eventually taking up residence in the community of Alexandria. She is a hardened survivor possessing both military training and mechanical expertise, making her a valuable asset to her companions. Though hard-as-nails and sometimes hard-headed, she is also compassionate and cares deeply for the well-being of her friends and allies.

Rosita was portrayed by Christian Serratos throughout her run on the series, which lasted from Season 4 all the way to the series finale "Rest in Peace". She was the last main character - and last character overall - to die in the series.

History[]

Early life[]

Not much is known about Rosita's life before the zombie apocalypse. What is known is that she grew up under her mother's care and barely knew her father. Her mother died during her early teens and she and her remaining family moved around a lot following her mother's passing.

Rosita is believed to have served in the military at some point, although this is never confirmed in the series. As well as being proficient in the use and maintenance of firearms, she also possessed a keen knowledge of mechanical engineering, hinting that she may have worked as a mechanic at some point.

Early on in the apocalypse, Rosita was running with a group of eight other survivors in Texas. While travelling through Houston, they were struggling to fend off a group of walkers when they were rescued by Abraham Ford and Eugene Porter. Witnessing how capable Rosita and her group were, Abraham asked for their help in his mission to deliver Eugene to Washington D.C., supposedly to develop a cure for the zombie pathogen. Rosita and her group agreed, and together they set off for Washington. However, by the time the group arrived in Georgia, most of the group had been killed, leaving only Rosita, Abraham and Eugene. During this time, Rosita developed a closer bond with Abraham and eventually fell in love with him, thus allowing Abraham to move on from the emotional trauma that stemmed from his family's deaths.

Season 4[]

Abe, Eugene and Rosita

When Rosita, Abraham and Eugene first appear in the episode "Inmates", they are travelling through the state of Georgia when they encounter Glenn Rhee and Tara Chambler, two survivors of a heated battle that took place at the West Georgia Correctional Facility. Glenn is wounded and falls unconscious, so Abraham allows he and Tara to rest in the back of his truck. After Glenn awakes, Abraham informs him and Tara of the mission to get Eugene to Washington, but Glenn doesn't care about the mission and is only interested in finding his wife Maggie and their friends from the prison. Glenn and Abraham get into a fight in the middle of the road which attracts a group of walkers. Eugene tries to kill the zombies with an assault rifle, but having never used one before, he fires wide and ends up damaging the truck's fuel tank.

After the walkers are dealt with, Rosita and the others are forced to proceed on foot until they find another vehicle. They eventually come to a tunnel that has partially collapsed. Abraham advises going around it since it is completely dark inside and crawling with zombies, but Glenn believes that the tunnel will put him back on Maggie's trail sooner. Abraham allows Glenn and Tara to go while he and Rosita take Eugene down another road, claiming a car along the way. The trio reach the other side of the tunnel before Glenn and Tara do, and as fortune would have it, they also meet up with Maggie, Sasha Williams and Bob Stookey. They then go into the tunnel where they arrive just in time to save Glenn and Tara from being devoured by walkers.

After Glenn and Maggie enjoy their reunion, the group proceed towards Terminus, a survivors' colony offering sanctuary to all. They eventually reach the colony, but they soon find that it is not the safe haven they were led to believe as the Terminians are cannibals who eat those that refuse to join them. Rosita and co. are locked up in an old boxcar and are joined the next day by Rick Grimes, his son Carl, Daryl Dixon and Michonne.

Season 5[]

Rick's group are not imprisoned in Terminus for long; they escape when Carol Peletier arrives and blows up a large gas canister, breaching Terminus' walls and allowing walkers to flood in. With the Terminians in disarray, Rick and the other prisoners escape and reunite with Carol, Tyreese Williams and Rick's baby daughter Judith.

Later, after saving Gabriel Stokes from a group of zombies, Rick and the others reconvene at a small church where they decide on what they are to do next. Daryl suggests that they head for Atlanta to find Beth Greene who had previously been abducted, but Abraham is determined to continue his mission to get Eugene to Washington. The group split up, intending to reunite after Beth has been rescued.

Rosita2

Abraham, Rosita and Eugene are accompanied by Glenn, Maggie and Tara, taking the church mini-bus to Washington. However, the bus breaks down along the way (later revealed to have been sabotaged by Eugene), though the team recover a fire engine from an abandoned town. They get the vehicle running again and continue their journey, but are forced to stop again when they approach a town that's swarming with walkers. Abraham is adamant that they should keep going, though the others believe that they aren't equipped to fight that many zombies. As the group argues, Eugene becomes frustrated and finally admits that he's not a scientist and doesn't know how to stop the infection, stating that he only told Abraham those things because he couldn't survive on his own. Abraham becomes enraged and nearly beats Eugene to death before falling into despair, falling to his knees and staring off into the distance in a seemingly catatonic state. He remains like this for some time before Rosita manages to snap him out of it.

Rosita and the others head back toward Atlanta to find Rick's group who are trying to save Beth. Sadly, the whole ordeal ends in tragedy as Beth has been killed. Joined by Noah, the group make their way to Noah's hometown, but find that the area has been ransacked with walkers picking over the remains. The group suffers another loss when Tyreese is bitten by a walker and soon dies from infection.

With no supplies and their vehicles broken down, the group are forced to walk down miles of desolate road without a clear goal in sight. Exhausted and starving, the group take shelter in an isolated barn when a storm kicks up. The storm is fierce and walkers have gathered outside, threatening to tear through the barn and kill the occupants. Fortunately, the walkers are killed or incapacitated by several trees that are either uprooted by the winds or struck down by lightning. When the survivors emerge from the barn in the morning, they find they are being watched.

Aaron, a man from a community called Alexandria, offers Rick and his people the opportunity to join them. The Alexandrians have survived the apocalypse in complete safety up to that point, but as conditions outside of the community's walls have deteriorated they have come to need the expertise of those who have survived on the outside. After some deliberation, Rick and the others accept Aaron's offer and are later welcomed into Alexandria, offering their skills to help the town endure and grow.

Season 6[]

Eugene Rosita Talking

While Rick is overseeing a plan to herd a massive horde of walkers away from Alexandria, Rosita acts as a lookout, keeping Rick informed about any change in the herd's movement or any outside forces. However, she is called back to Alexandria when the settlement is attacked by a roaming band of marauders known as the Wolves. Rosita assists in defending the community and all but one of the Wolves are killed. Following the attack, she starts training the Alexandrians in how to properly use a machete in combat. She suggests to Eugene that he also participate, but Eugene admits that he is afraid of dying. Rosita harshly informs him that letting someone else die because you were too scared to help them is far worse, hinting that she has come to resent him for his cowardice.

After a tower collapses over the wall, the zombie horde that Rick's team failed to route enters Alexandria, flooding the streets. As Rick and the other members of his group take to the streets and start killing zombies left and right, the Alexandrians become inspired to help them, taking up arms and joining in the extermination. The battle goes on through the night and by morning, every last zombie has been slain.

Following the battle, Rosita would discover that Abraham had become romantically involved with Sasha during their mission to route the horde. Though heartbroken, she wouldn't confront either of them about it and tried to move on. However, she would suffer greater heartbreak later on after she and her friends encountered the Saviors and their leader, Negan, killed Abraham in a sadistic and brutal fashion.

Season 7[]

After Alexandria is pressed into Negan's service, Rosita becomes fixated on revenge. With the Saviors confiscating all of Alexandria's guns, Rosita goes out of her way to try and scavenge whatever firearms she possibly can. After managing to find a gun on the body of a dead Savior out in the wilds, she orders Eugene to make a single bullet for her using an abandoned manufacturing facility he and Abraham had previously found. Eugene initially refuses, knowing that Rosita is intent on using it to kill Negan and tries to dissuade her, saying that someone is going to pay the price if she is successful or not. Rosita then lashes out at Eugene, calling him a coward who has only survived thus far by lying and taking advantage of other people's pity, demanding that he make himself useful for once by making her a bullet.

Rosita gun

Eugene crafts the bullet that Rosita wanted and gives it to her. When she and Eugene return to Alexandria, they find that Negan is already there, having brought Carl home after he attempted to infiltrate the Sanctuary. Rosita bides her time, waiting for the appropriate moment to attack. After watching Negan murder Spencer Monroe out in the street in full view of everyone, she decides to take her shot. However, Rosita fails to hit Negan, instead hitting his prized baseball bat, Lucille. In response to this, Negan orders his lieutenant Arat to kill a resident, and she shoots Olivia. Negan demands to know where the bullet came from and Eugene confesses, but while Rosita tries to convince Negan that she was acting alone, the Savior leader doesn't believe her. He and the Saviors take Eugene away and return to the Sanctuary, expecting Alexandria to pay for Rosita's actions with double the standard tribute.

As Rick and his friends try to appeal to the Hilltop and the Kingdom to help them fight the Saviors, Rosita becomes increasingly frustrated as the communities refuse to lend their aid. At one point, Sasha starts venting her own frustrations to Rosita, but Rosita snaps back at her, revealing that she knows about Sasha hooking up with Abraham, saying that their mutual grief over his loss doesn't make them friends. However, days later, Rosita and Sasha work together in an attempt to assassinate Negan. After securing a rifle and ammunition thanks to Rick's deal with a group called the Scavengers, they approach the Sanctuary, but while there they see that Eugene is actually giving orders to some of the Saviors. Rosita suspects that Eugene is working some angle.

Rosita and sasha

In the middle of the night, Rosita and Sasha attempt to rescue Eugene. After locating him in the Sanctuary courtyard and killing the accompanying Savior, they try to get him to go with them, but Eugene refuses and heads back inside. Sasha takes the opportunity to find another entrance into the compound while Rosita keeps watch, but Sasha then locks the door behind her. Gunfire erupts from inside and more Saviors head out into the courtyard, forcing Rosita to flee. Stopping not far from the Sanctuary, Rosita is approached by Dwight, one of Negan's lieutenants, who claims that he wants to help.

Rosita brings Dwight back to Alexandria and has him locked up until Rick, Michonne, Daryl and Jesus return. She tells them what happened to Sasha and the group plan on how to deal with the Saviors when they come for their next tribute. After setting up explosives beyond the settlement gate and garnering the support of the Scavengers, the group are ready for the Saviors' arrival. When they arrive, Rick and the others are stunned to find that Eugene is leading them. Eugene calls out with a megaphone demanding that Rick and his people surrender. Rick gives Rosita the signal to set off the explosives, but when Rosita presses the detonator switch, nothing happens. The Scavengers then turn their guns on the Alexandrians, revealing that they had sabotaged the explosives and are in league with Negan.

Negan rolls into Alexandria carrying a coffin on a flatbed truck, claiming that Sasha is inside. After some back and forth, Rick agrees to surrender after seeing Sasha, which Negan allows. When he opens the coffin, however, Sasha emerges as a walker and attacks him. The Alexandrians take advantage of the distraction and battle erupts. During the ensuing battle, Rosita is shot in the shoulder by a Scavenger. However, she survives the battle and is later tended to by Tara.

Season 8[]

Throughout the season, Rosita fights with Rick's Militia in the war against the Saviors. After the Sanctuary courtyard is flooded with walkers, Rosita takes up a sniping position and prepares to pick off any Saviors that attempt to stop Daryl as he carries out his plan to breach the compound's walls and allow the undead to pour inside. The hope was that the horde would kill off the Saviors, or would force Negan out into the open where the Militia snipers could kill him, but the plan does not turn out as hoped.

When the Saviors launch a retaliatory strike against Alexandria, Rosita, Tara, Daryl and Michonne use smoke grenades to obscure the enemy's vision, giving any remaining residents cover so that they can escape. Dwight, still believed by the Saviors to be on their side, drives them right through the smoke in order to make them easier targets for Rosita's group. While still not entirely trusting of Dwight, they continue to let him live as he has thus far been of help to them, bringing him with them as they descend into the sewers beneath the burning Alexandria.

Rosita and daryl

Following the bombing of Alexandria, Rosita, Tara and Daryl lead the survivors through the forest on a journey towards Hilltop. Upon Dwight's suggestion, they decide to travel through a swamp where they are less likely to encounter Saviors. The swamp is, however, filled with walkers, but the group are able to put them down without suffering any losses. A Savior patrol is spotted in the area, but Dwight is able to lead them away, preventing them from spotting and attacking the Alexandrians.

The Alexandrian refugees arrive at the Hilltop and are welcomed, but it is not long before the Hilltop also comes under attack from the Saviors. Simon leads an assault in which his forces use weapons coated in walker blood, ensuring that every wounded enemy will die from infection and reanimate within the Hilltop's walls. Although the Saviors withdraw from the battle in apparent defeat, every Militia member who was wounded in battle dies and reanimates, resulting in several more deaths as the Hilltop residents deal with a zombie outbreak in their midst.

Following the attack and subsequent outbreak, the Militia are running low on supplies, munitions and manpower while the Saviors still have considerable amounts of all. Rosita concludes that they need to cut off the Saviors supply of ammunition, and decides to go after Eugene, who now runs the bullet factory they had discovered a while back. Rosita and Daryl later visit the factory and ambush Eugene outside, taking out the guards escorting him. They capture him and lead him back to Hilltop, during which time Eugene attempts to defend his alliance with Negan, but Rosita furiously lashes out at him, calling him a coward who turned on his only friends. She decides she won't kill him, though, because they are going to lock him in the darkest hole they can find and the only time he will see light is when they need him to teach them something useful.

Along the way to Hilltop, Rosita, Daryl and Eugene encounter a herd of walkers. While Daryl kills walkers, Eugene uses this as a distraction and makes himself vomit on Rosita and runs off before she is able to recover. Rosita and Daryl follow Eugene's tracks through a pile of ash, completely overlooking his hiding spot within the pile.

Rosita later takes part in the final battle of the war. When it appears that the Militia are surrounded and about to die, the Saviors' guns suddenly explode. With the enemy all suddenly disarmed, the battle turns decidedly in the Militia's favour and soon ends with Negan and the Saviors defeated. Following the battle, Rosita talks to Eugene, who reveals that he had sabotaged the Saviors' munitions, having been inspired to do so by Rosita's words and Gabriel Stokes' previous sabotage attempts. Rosita then punches Eugene in the face for vomiting on her previously, but otherwise forgives his previous actions.

Season 9[]

Eugene rosita

In the years following the Savior War and Rick's disappearance, Rosita has continued to help Alexandria survive and prosper. Her formerly strained relationship with Eugene has evolved into a true friendship, although Eugene hints at wanting it to be more than that. However, during this period, Rosita had a romantic relationship with Siddiq, but for whatever reason, this relationship did not last and Rosita would later get together with Gabriel, though she and Siddiq would remain on friendly terms.

One day, while trying to set up a radio relay on an old water tower, Rosita and Eugene were approached by a herd of walkers. Eugene was injured after falling from the tower and Rosita had to shoulder him as the two fled from the herd. While running, the pair slid into a ditch, covering themselves in mud in order to better obscure themselves. As they hid, they heard raspy voices coming from amongst the swarm, thinking that the zombies were whispering to one another. When the herd passed by, Rosita and Eugene made their way to an empty barn. Eugene hid within the barn while Rosita continued on back to Alexandria to get help, but she later passed out from exhaustion.

After recovering a short while later, Rosita fires a flare into the air and is soon after found by Aaron and Jesus. She is taken to Hilltop for medical attention, but when Michonne and Siddiq see her later on, she warns them that Aaron and Jesus are in danger. Siddiq and Enid continue to tend to Rosita, who later reveals that she is pregnant with Siddiq's child. She, Siddiq and Gabriel discuss this together and come to an understanding, with Siddiq agreeing to co-parent following his child's birth.

Season 10[]

In the months since the fall of the Kingdom, Rosita has given birth to hers and Siddiq's baby daughter, whom they name Socorro, or Coco for short. While Eugene helps the couple with childcare issues, Siddiq is wracked with fear and paranoia as a result of PTSD brought on by the massacre at the Kingdom's trade fair, of which he was the only abducted victim left alive. Since then, the Whisperers have launched a soft offensive against the Coalition, carrying out minor attacks by sending herds of walkers in Alexandria's direction, contaminating its water supply and even collapsing a tree over Hilltop's wall, all in order to wear the survivors down and make them weak.

After Rosita and numerous other Alexandrians fall ill from an apparent stomach bug, Siddiq later finds out that the drinking water has been contaminated and the filtration system has been sabotaged. He discovers that fellow doctor Dante is responsible and is actually a Whisperer spy, but Dante kills him before he can tell anyone. Rosita later pays Siddiq a visit only to be stopped at the door by Dante, who tries to turn her away without rousing suspicion. However, Rosita notices Siddiq's body behind Dante and he attacks her. Rosita backs away to the bathroom, placing Coco in the tub as she and Dante fight. As the two fight, Siddiq reanimates and is drawn by Coco's crying. He is about to attack her when Rosita beats Dante to the floor before rushing over with a knife, stabbing Siddiq in the head and putting him down. After Dante is locked up, Rosita is present at his interrogation and kicks him after he expresses his enthusiasm over watching his captors decide what to do with him.

Rosita upset

Following Siddiq's death, Rosita starts having nightmares regarding the Whisperers, fearing that one day they will come for her daughter and she will be unable to stop it. One morning, she watches as a Whisperer called Gamma arrives at Alexandria's gates, informing them that a group of theirs are trapped inside a cave where Alpha has hidden her enormous zombie horde. Rosita goes down to meet Gamma and promptly punches her, knocking her out before having her dragged to the holding cell. She and Gabriel later interrogate Gamma, who reveals her true name to be Mary and that her sister's baby was rescued by Coalition members at Hilltop after Alpha forced her to abandon the child. Mary also admitted to killing her sister for Alpha.

Rosita later helps to organize a rescue plan for Carol, Daryl and the others trapped in the cave, but remains at Alexandria to oversee its protection. In the night, Beta infiltrates the community and murders several residents, allowing them to reanimate so that they will keep Alexandria's defenders busy while he attempts to retrieve Gamma without interruption. Beta releases Mary and kills Laura when she tries to stop him from taking her. He pursues Mary only for Rosita to get in his way and the two fight. Beta gains the upper hand and is about to kill Rosita when Mary calls out and threatens to kill herself, saying that she knows Alpha will want her alive. While Beta spares Rosita and flees, Mary gains Rosita's respect and gratitude.

Following Beta's infiltration, Rosita and Mary travel to Hilltop so that Mary can see her nephew, who is being cared for by Earl Sutton and Alden. Rosita, meanwhile, pays a visit to Eugene, who has successfully set up a radio system at Hilltop and has been privately communicating with a woman from another community. After Rosita walks in on him during one of these communiqués, the woman cuts off and Eugene is angered by her interference. Some time later, Rosita meets Eugene near the Hilltop's new electric fence as the community prepares for a Whisperer attack. She apologizes for what happened in the radio tower and correctly suspects that Eugene fancies Stephanie, the woman he had been talking to. She encourages Eugene to try and contact her again and arrange a face-to-face meeting. Eugene follows Rosita's advice and succeeds in contacting Stephanie again, arranging to meet her in a fortnight's time.

Rosita Eugene 2

When the Whisperers attack Hilltop using their undead horde to overwhelm the defences, they also launch sacs of tree-sap at the walls, following up with flaming arrows to set the community ablaze. Rosita survives the attack and joins Daryl, Dianne, Jerry and Nabila as they proceed to a rendezvous point in the forest. When they arrive at the solitary house, they find only a single walker and none of the other survivors. They continue further until arriving in a desolate town, taking refuge in an abandoned hospital where the other survivors have also gathered. There, she speaks to Eugene again and encourages him to tell everyone about his talks with Stephanie and his upcoming meeting with her.

After Eugene leaves with Ezekiel and Yumiko to go and find Stephanie, Rosita helps to protect the remaining Coalition members as Beta leads a final attack against them with an army of zombies. While Daryl, Carol and Luke Abrams use a sound system to lure most of the horde away, Rosita helps defend the hospital as the Whisperers break in. The battle is ended after Daryl and Negan wound Beta, allowing the zombies surrounding him to sense and consume him.

Season 11[]

Rosita Lydia Carol

Following the Whisperer conflict, both Alexandria and the Hilltop are left in dire straits, having suffered terrible damage and running low on food. While Maggie leads a group to the former community of Meridian, Rosita remains in Alexandria to care for Coco and oversee rebuilding. The situation only gets worse when Alexandria is hit by a storm and a herd of walkers breaches the community. While Aaron takes a team to put out a fire in the windmill, another group works on fixing the damaged perimeter wall. Rosita, meanwhile, stays at Aaron's house with Lydia and the children to protect them as walkers attempt to get inside. Eventually, the horde does get inside and the children flee upstairs while Rosita, Lydia and Dianne hold back the horde at the bottom of the stairway. Judith and Gracie, however, are separated from the others and become trapped in the basement, which is filling up with rainwater. Fortunately for the girls, Aaron breaks in through the basement window and manages to rescue them.

By the time the storm clears, the zombies have been exterminated and the residents are all still alive, but Alexandria has suffered further damage and the residents are starving. Not long after the storm has passed, Maggie and the surviving members of her team return with the food they had procured from Meridian. Not long after that, Alexandria is visited by representatives from the Commonwealth, a large community that Eugene's group had made contact with. Seeing the state that Alexandria is in, Lance Hornsby offers the Alexandrians the opportunity to relocate to the Commonwealth. Rosita agrees to move to the Commonwealth so she can take care of Coco in a more secure environment. After arriving, she enlists in the Commonwealth Army along with Daryl and undergoes training.

On Halloween night, Rosita and Daryl are working security for a masquerade ball being thrown for the Commonwealth's elite when a disgruntled ex-soldier, Tyler Davis, disrupts the party and threatens Maxxine Mercer. Tyler is later arrested and Rosita is tasked with investigating his home to find any evidence supporting his claims that the Commonwealth's lower class are plotting against the government. Inside Tyler's house, she discovers a secret passage in his closet, revealing a room filled with anti-Commonwealth propaganda.

Trooper Espinosa

Weeks later, Rosita and Daryl are privately hired by Sebastian Milton to break into an abandoned house outside the Commonwealth's walls. Within the house contained a safe holding thousands of dollars in cash, which Sebastian wanted since his mother cut off his line of credit. Daryl and Rosita initially refuse, but then Sebastian threatens their kids, saying that he would make orphans of them if the two didn't take the job. Reluctantly, Rosita and Daryl take the job, covering themselves in zombie guts to move through the herd surrounding the house. After making it inside, the duo discover the panic room which contains the safe, but someone is also trapped in there, a woman called April.

After Daryl reactivates the house's generator, he and Rosita open the panic room. However, as they attempt to access the safe in the room, an alarm goes off, drawing the zombies that were gathered outside. Daryl, Rosita and April shut themselves in the panic room as they break open the safe and obtain the cash inside. Afterwards, they prepare to fight their way out, but Michael Mercer and Carol Peletier then arrive, having cleared a path through the undead. The group then cover themselves in zombie gore again to camouflage themselves and walk through the horde and out of the house. As the group walk among the zombies inside the house, one zombie's clothing gets caught on a piece of armour that April is wearing. Attempting to loosen the cloth attracts the zombie's attention and April is forced to stab the creature, but this riles up the other zombies and they attack her. Daryl, Rosita, Carol and Mercer draw weapons and kill the remaining zombies, but they are unable to save April, who had been disemboweled.

After Rosita, Daryl and Mercer hand the cash over to Sebastian's flunkies, Mercer asks how many people had previously been sent in and they answer that 40 other people had previously been sent to the house and never came back alive, prompting Mercer to shoot them both. He then tells Daryl and Rosita to finish the job and deliver the cash to Sebastian, otherwise Sebastian will go after them and their families. The pair return to the trooper station and give the money to Sebastian, who gives them a small cut in exchange. Following the heist, Rosita meets with Eugene and tells him about the heist. The two later meet with Connie and Kelly who both now work for the Commonwealth Tribune and have uncovered a long list of missing persons, far more than Sebastian had apparently blackmailed, meaning that the Governor, Pamela Milton, is disappearing people for some reason.

After Sebastian is killed during the Founders' Day festivities, Eugene is blamed for Sebastian's death. Rosita is brought in for questioning, but tells Mercer that she wasn't involved in any way. After her interrogation, she visits the church where Gabriel, Daryl and Eugene are laying low. They make plans to leave the Commonwealth, but Eugene refuses to leave without Maxxine. Rosita agrees to go and find Max and they will figure out a way to get her out as well, but when she goes to Max's apartment, she witnesses her being arrested by Commonwealth troopers. She returns to the church to deliver the news and Eugene, distraught over what has happened, decides to turn himself in. Rosita and Eugene exchange words, hugs and tears before they part ways and Eugene also gives his bolo tie to Rosita to pass on to Coco when she grows up.

Rosita later returns to her apartment, but is suddenly assaulted by Commonwealth agents who place a sack over her head and take her away. She is put on a military truck along with Gabriel and Maggie, the three of them being injected with sedatives. While in transit, Maggie wakes up first and shakes off her hood, finding Gabriel and Rosita with her and their guard asleep. She manages to break free of her zip ties and quietly wakes up Gabriel. Unscrewing a piece of metal from the wall, Maggie cuts Gabriel loose who frees Rosita. Rosita and Gabriel jump from the back of the moving truck, but the guard wakes up before Maggie can escape as well and the two struggle over his gun. The gun goes off in the fight, accidentally killing the truck's driver. Finally, Maggie throws the soldier from the back of the truck just before it crashes into a tree. Climbing out, Maggie finds the passenger dead, having been flung from the truck and into the tree by the impact. Maggie attempts to take the driver's gun, but she is forced to flee into the woods as the rest of the Commonwealth convoy approaches.

Rosita and Gabriel

The next morning, as Gabriel and Rosita lie unconscious in the road, their former guard, now a walker, approaches Rosita who wakes up just in time. Gabriel draws the walker's attention towards him and yanks his helmet off, giving Rosita the chance to grab the soldier's machete and impale him in the head with it, putting him down. The two quickly begin scavenging the body for his weapons and radio while Gabriel notices that Rosita was injured in the fall from the truck, although she brushes off his concerns. Over the soldier's radio, a soldier from Outpost 41 reports that there's no sign of the dead soldier or the escapees. Another soldier reports in that he has found a set of boot tracks that might be from the dead soldier. Realizing the danger, the two take off down the road before the Commonwealth forces can find them.

Rosita and Gabriel reach the road and Rosita begins following the tracks of the Commonwealth convoy. Gabriel calls for her to hold up, and asks what their plan is. Rosita intends to follow the convoy wherever it goes, but Gabriel points out the foolishness of that plan as there are only just two of them. However, Gabriel doesn't have a better idea and Rosita suggests splitting up in order to cover more ground, but Gabriel refuses to leave her. Two walkers emerge from the woods and Gabriel quickly puts one down, but Rosita suddenly collapses in pain when the other walker attacks her. Gabriel saves her, and Rosita reveals that her arm is dislocated, and that she needs Gabriel's help to pop it back into place. Gabriel fixes Rosita's arm, but she insists on pressing on rather than resting, blaming herself for Coco being taken. Gabriel tells Rosita not to torture herself and reminds Rosita of her own words when Gabriel beats himself up: "quit bitching and move forward." As Rosita finally calms down, the two are surprised to hear a train whistle in the distance as there are no trains anymore.

At a rail junction, Rosita and Gabriel join Maggie and Carol, explaining that they'd heard a train and followed it. Inside, Daryl is standing over a mortally wounded Commonwealth soldier. The group interrogate the dying soldier, asking about where the train is going and the meaning of "Designation 2" as Connie was labelled as such. The soldier is defiant at first, but then Gabriel tries a more gentle approach, recognizing the soldier as one of the regular attendees at church. He noted that the soldier always appeared to have something on his mind when he came to church and the soldier asked him if God would forgive a man like him, revealing that he's ashamed of the work he has done for the Commonwealth. Gabriel tells the soldier that the end of each person's story is especially important and asks how he would like to be remembered. At this, the soldier tells the group that the Commonwealth punishes criminals by forcing them to do hard labour, but he doesn't know what Designation 2 means except that those labelled as such are taken far away and never seen again. As the soldier dies, Gabriel stays and prays with him until he passes.

A short while later, after the soldier has been stabbed in the brain to prevent reanimation, Rosita and the others follow the train tracks and come up on the train, which has been forced to stop due to debris on the tracks. While the troopers are dealing with nearby walkers, the group sabotage the junction switch. Acting quickly and quietly, they ambush and kill each of the soldiers, leaving only two of them, Wilson and Jones, alive. However, Jones is holding Connie hostage, threatening to kill her, but Connie is able to overpower him and free herself. Jones tries to flee, but Daryl goes after him and kills him.

The group take the captive Wilson back to the junction where they had left their last captive. They ask him where their friends have been taken, but Wilson refuses to tell them, fearing that the Warden will kill his family if he finds out that he talked. Rosita explains that the Commonwealth took their children and asks about the family that Wilson had mentioned before suggesting that Nelson, the soldier lying beside him, had a family too. After a moment, Wilson tells them that there's a map in the train's engine room. Maggie and Carol take Wilson to get the map, but after they retrieve it, Wilson grabs a tool and prepares to kill himself with it, preferring death over being tortured by the Warden and being forced to watch his family die. The group try to talk him down, but Wilson's fear for his family wins out and he drives the tool into his neck, killing himself.

The group then fix the radio on the train and make contact with Outpost 22, the location where their missing comrades are being kept. Rosita, pretending to be a soldier, states that she has been separated from her unit and is searching for the nearest outpost. The soldier on the radio states that most of the detainees from the last convoy that arrived at Outpost 22 actually used to live there, revealing that the outpost is actually Alexandria. The group are shocked to realize that Pamela had always intended to take over Alexandria and they start devising a plan to save their people and take back their home.

As the group infiltrate Alexandria via the sewers, they discover that a prisoner revolt is already in the works. Negan is about to be put to death when Ezekiel and several other prisoners come to his defence, standing between him and the soldiers taking aim at him. The Warden simply decides that they can all die with Negan, but most of the soldiers in the firing squad lower their weapons, with one turning to aim at the Warden. The soldier nearest the Warden raises his gun to shoot Roberts, but Roberts pulls the trigger first and shoots him dead. The Warden then grabs Kelly and holds her at gunpoint as he tries to escape, but Daryl and Connie come up from behind him and Daryl stabs him in the back, incapacitating him.

As the Warden lies on the ground wounded, Negan is about to kill him with a rock, but Rosita stops him. She then tells the Warden to tell her where her daughter is, but the Warden doesn't answer. Nearby, the soldier that Roberts had killed earlier reanimates and Rosita grabs him by the collar, holding him close to the Warden and threatening to let the zombified trooper eat him if he doesn't answer her. The Warden remains defiant, chuckling and telling Rosita that she is going to lose everything. Rosita then angrily shoves the zombie soldier down on the Warden who screams as the walker chews out his eye while everyone else watches.

Come morning, Alexandria is fully liberated, the remaining soldiers having surrendered. The Coalition members gather as many weapons and supplies as they can in preparation for their return to the Commonwealth, intent on freeing their people still trapped there and overthrowing Pamela's regime. Tyler Davis tells Rosita about the Commonwealth Children's Home, saying that that's where Coco and the other Coalition children will most likely be kept, but he doesn't know exactly where it is. Fortunately, the captive Commonwealth soldiers cooperate and reveal its location, with one of the soldiers agreeing to operate the train back to the Commonwealth.

When the Coalition force arrive at the Commonwealth border, they use an old tunnel to sneak inside, emerging in Union Station. However, Pamela and her soldiers have been expecting them and the station doors are chained shut, preventing anyone from getting out. The soldiers soon emerge from cover on the upper level and open fire on the Coalition group, killing Tyler and two other former prisoners. In the ensuing gun battle, Judith is shot and wounded by Pamela herself. In order to blind the enemy, Ezekiel throws a fire extinguisher into the air and Daryl shoots it, causing it to explode and release a cloud of CO₂ gas into the room. Under the cover of the gas, the Coalition group break the chains on the door and exit the building. Upon emerging into the street, they find Yumiko, Eugene and Max, who are also on the run. The group run through the streets, but no soldiers pursue them. Instead, the army barricades the streets ahead and behind the escapees, boxing them in. It soon becomes clear why: the Commonwealth has been breached by the undead and a swarm of walkers floods into the street.

Rosita and Coco

As the heroes fight for their lives against the undead horde, Daryl and Carol clear a path down an alleyway that leads them towards the hospital. Rosita, Eugene and Gabriel part from the rest of the group, heading towards the children's home where Coco, Mariam and Adam are being kept. Inside, Rosita passes by several walkers feeding on the bodies of staff members. Hearing the sound of crying, she follows the sound and finds the nursery where the babies are sat underneath an upside-down crib, the bars protecting them from three walkers. Rushing in, Rosita is grabbed by a walker that surprises her, but she manages to break free and put all three down, saving the children. Rosita embraces her daughter as Eugene and Gabriel rush in, relieved to find the children alright and Eugene soothes Mariam while Gabriel joins Rosita with Coco. Ezekiel radios in that they've got Mercer and asks for any updates on the kids. Gabriel reports the good news and Ezekiel promises to see them at the hospital.

At the hospital, as Daryl tries to wake Judith up, Rosita calls in with the news that her group is in the alley behind the hospital, but they wrecked their ambulance going through the herd which is now surrounded by walkers. Rosita, Eugene and Gabriel burst out of the ambulance, each carrying a child in slings, but find themselves surrounded on all sides by walkers. Fighting back-to-back and saving each other when they fall into danger from walkers, Rosita orders everyone up a nearby drainage pipe to a window. However, while Eugene and Gabriel make it safely, the walkers drag Rosita backwards and she falls into the herd with Coco. As Eugene and Gabriel mourn for her apparent loss, Rosita suddenly breaks free, slicing a walker's head in two, getting back to her feet and taking out several walkers as they all try to swarm her. Rosita manages to climb on top of the ambulance, followed by two climbers, and successfully makes a jump to the drainpipe where she climbs into the window.

Later on, Rosita, Gabriel, Eugene and the children are retrieved by Mercer and taken to a safehouse at the Estates. Eugene sits next to a sleeping Max, but he gets up after noticing how upset Rosita looks as she plays with Coco nearby. Eugene offers to take Coco off of Rosita's hands for a bit so that she can get some rest, but Rosita kindly refuses his offer. Eugene brings up plans for the future, such as teaching Coco how to swim at Oceanside, but Rosita doesn't respond. Eugene begins to go into a scientific explanation as to why teaching Coco to swim as an infant is a good idea, but Rosita continues to fail to respond to him. Rosita wipes away a tear as Eugene asks her if she can't wait for summer and Eugene realizes that something is horribly wrong. Rosita shows Eugene a bite mark on the back of her left shoulder, having been bitten by a walker when she fell. Eugene breaks down in tears, knowing that there's nothing that can be done to save Rosita. Accepting of her fate, Rosita orders Eugene to pull himself together as she doesn't want the others to know yet and she's still there and Eugene will be fine. Eugene admits that he loves Rosita deeply, a sentiment which she returns. Working to compose himself, Eugene returns to Max where he hides the truth, complying with Rosita's wishes.

Death[]

In the series' final episode, after the Coalition enact their plan to save the Commonwealth by luring the undead horde into the Estates and then blowing the district up with several improvised explosives, the survivors celebrate their victory back at Alexandria with a feast at Rosita's house. Rosita sits back on the sofa watching the others eat and laugh together when Gabriel comes over to her, noticing her somber mood. Rosita tells Gabriel that she wants to remember this perfect moment before leaning over to whisper in his ear, telling him about how she had been bitten.

Rosita Death

Weak and near death, Rosita is led to bed by Maggie and Carol where Coco is laying. With everyone now aware that Rosita's dying, a tearful Maggie gives her a hug and kiss goodbye and Carol hugs her before the two women leave. As Daryl watches from the doorway, a barely composed Gabriel performs Last Rites over Rosita. Rosita kisses Coco for a final time and Gabriel promises that they will see her again someday. Gabriel carries Coco out as Eugene takes a seat next to Rosita's bed. Eugene tearfully tells Rosita that he wouldn't be the man that he is today if he hadn't met her. Taking Eugene's hand, Rosita tells him that she's glad that it was him in the end who will be there to make sure that she won't reanimate after she's gone. Rosita peacefully passes away with her oldest living friend at her side.

A year later, Rosita's name is on a memorial plaque for those lost in the walker invasion with her name beside those of Luke and Jules. Eugene lays down flowers for his lost friends before pressing a kiss to Rosita's name.
