Samantha Megan Lane was a minor character in the 2009 horror film, The Final Destination. She was a resident of McKinley, Pennsylvania along with her husband and two children. She and her family survived the McKinley Speedway disaster in January 2009, though according to Nick O'Bannon's premonition, only Samantha was supposed to die in the event.
History[]
On January 6th 2009, Samantha and her family visited McKinley Speedway to watch the Megatech 300 racing event. During the race, Samantha's sons, Ryan and Daniel, complained about the noise. Samantha gave the children tampons to use as earplugs, much to the amusement of fellow spectator Hunt Wynorski. When Nick O'Bannon experienced a premonition of a disaster that would result in dozens of deaths, he caused a commotion as he left the stadium. Witnessing this, Samantha and her sons followed after him, thus surviving the accident when it occurred seconds later.
The night after the accident, a memorial service was held for those who had died. Samantha and her husband Edward attended the service where they met Nick, thanking him for warning them of the crash and calling him a hero. They asked how Nick knew what was going to happen, but Nick didn't have an answer for them.
Death[]
Two days after the memorial, Samantha was visiting a beauty salon with her sons. Before she entered, her boys started throwing rocks at a nearby stop sign. As she was leaving her hair parlour, she was unaware that one of the stones landed in the grass near a man riding a lawnmower tractor. The driver of the lawnmower ran right over the rock, and it shot through the exhaust pipe. When Samantha was about to exit the salon, she turned around and the rock shot through her right eye and out the back of her head, instantly killing her and breaking the window behind her. She collapsed onto the floor, dead, as her sons and the staff screamed in horror.
This death is considered to be one of the more cruel fates in the Final Destination series, largely because of the involvement of Samantha's children. While Death actively causes objects to move around or break inside the salon, these instances turn out to be red herrings as Samantha is unharmed by any of Death's actions. However, her sons' careless throwing of stones ultimately led to her demise and the boys also witnessed their mother's death firsthand, no doubt traumatizing them for life.
