Game of shadows

This article contains the details of various background character deaths that occur in Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.

  • At the start of the film, a bombing occurs in Strasbourg, France. It is unknown how many people are killed in this attack.
  • Professor Moriarty hires several henchmen to kill Dr. Watson and his new wife Mary as they take the train to Brighton for their honeymoon. Fortunately, Holmes has followed in order to sabotage Moriarty's murderous attempts. Holmes sabotages the rifle of one of the false guards which explodes when it goes off, setting the guard on fire.
  • Three of Moriarty's henchmen are shot by Watson.
  • One of the assassins on the train inadvertently sets off an explosive trap set up by Holmes. The explosion throws the hired killer clear off the train.
  • As two remaining hired thugs fire on Holmes and Watson with a machine gun, the machine gun suddenly jams. Holmes had replaced a shell on the ammo belt with a lipstick, providing Watson a window of opportunity to shoot back. Watson shoots a thug in the shoulder just as said thug is about to throw a grenade. The grenade, its pin already pulled, falls back into a bag of grenades. The thug is unable to find it again before it goes off, killing him and the machine gun thug.
  • The Paris Opera is bombed, killing several people. The bombing is actually a cover for Sebastian Moran - a former British soldier hired by Moriarty - to assassinate a German arms manufacturer by sniping him.
  • At the Meinhart arms factory, Moran snipes a guard whilst trying to shoot Watson.
  • As Holmes, Watson and Simza flee the factory, Holmes shoots two guards.
  • Simza's band of gypsies help Holmes and Watson escape, shooting three more henchmen as they exit the factory.
  • Our heroes are pursued through the forest by Moran and several German soldiers. Two soldiers and two gypsies are killed during the escape.
