Siddiq is a regular supporting character between Seasons 8 and 10 of The Walking Dead. After surviving on his own in the wilderness for a long time, he joined the community of Alexandria after Carl Grimes saved his life. Since then, Siddiq supported Alexandria as well as the Hilltop with his medical expertise. He was portrayed by Avi Nash.

Personality[]

Siddiq was a kind and selfless man who valued all life. Having grown up in an Islamic household, he was a devout Muslim and tried to live by the teachings of the Quran. His kind nature earned him many friends in Alexandria and his medical experience made him an invaluable asset. While he was travelling on his own, Siddiq followed the teachings of his mother and attempted to kill as many zombies as he could, believing that he was freeing the souls of the deceased that were still trapped within their undead corpses.

Being a doctor and inherently selfless, Siddiq was known to shoulder a great emotional burden whenever he failed to help someone in need. Following the trade fair massacre at the Kingdom, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder brought on by being forced to watch the violent execution of so many of his friends.

History[]

Pre-apocalypse[]

Siddiq was raised by his Islamic parents. His mother was a devoted Muslim who firmly adhered to the scriptures of the Quran which she taught to Siddiq and thus he became pious towards his mother's beliefs. As a child, Siddiq was given a flute. At some point later in his life, Siddiq enrolled in medical school and became employed as a second-year emergency resident, where throughout his career he performed three surgeries, but no amputations.

Some time following the initial outbreak, Siddiq's parents both died after being bitten and succumbing to infection. After this, Siddiq travelled on his own for a long time, honouring his mother's teachings by killing as many walkers as he could, believing he was freeing the trapped souls of the people they had once been.

Season 8[]

After going without food for several days, Siddiq would arrive at an abandoned gas station. While looking for food, he encountered Carl Grimes, who was armed with a gun. They spoke briefly and Siddiq told him a quote from the Quran about mercy. However, their meeting was interrupted by the arrival of Carl's father Rick, who fired a warning shot that urged Siddiq to run away. Later that day, however, Carl would return to the gas station and leave two cans of food for Siddiq along with a note that said "Sorry".

A day later, Siddiq encountered Carl again in the woods. Carl apologized for what happened during their first meeting, offering Siddiq food and water from his pack. This time, Siddiq broke the tension between them by talking about himself and telling Carl about his mother's teachings. Carl asked Siddiq the three questions that his group asked to all would-be new members and was surprised that Siddiq gave such an exact number of walkers he had killed. Siddiq explained how he had been killing as many walkers as possible in order to free the souls of the people they had once been. He also stated that he had only ever killed one living person, out of mercy since they had already been bitten and were doomed to turn.

Having built up a level of trust between them, Carl offered to let Siddiq join his community. As the pair made their way back to Alexandria, they encountered a group of walkers preying on a deer. Siddiq wanted to put them down and Carl offered to help, but the two were overwhelmed and struggled to put down all of the zombies. While the pair survived, Carl was bitten on the chest, but he hid the wound from Siddiq.

After returning to Alexandria, Carl kept Siddiq hidden from the others in the sewers. At the time, Alexandria was at war with the Saviors and the residents weren't likely to trust the arrival of a stranger. At night, the Saviors would attack the community, launching grenades over the walls. The Alexandrians were forced to follow Carl into the sewers to take shelter from the bombing. Down in the sewers, Carl introduced Siddiq to Rick and also revealed how he had been bitten. He went on to tell Rick to find a way to make peace with Negan and the Saviors and explained how his choice to save Siddiq factored into his vision of the future. Before Carl died, Siddiq promised to honour the young man who had saved him.

Following Carl's death, Siddiq remained true to his word and helped the residents of Alexandria and the Hilltop with his medical expertise. Following the final battle of the war, Siddiq was ordered by Rick to save Negan's life after the Savior leader had his throat slashed.

Season 9[]

Seven years since joining Alexandria, Siddiq had become the community's foremost medical expert. As the community's doctor, he also held a position on the leading council. With Michonne still struggling to act as a competent leader in Rick's absence, Siddiq would often have to act as the voice of reason to keep Michonne from making any rash decisions that could potentially harm the community. Following Rosita Espinosa's first encounter with the violent group known as the Whisperers, Siddiq discovered while treating her that she was pregnant with his child, conceived when the two enjoyed a brief fling.

When the Kingdom hosted a trade fair in order to reunite the communities that had become divided following the war, tragedy struck as the Whisperers had infiltrated the community, abducting several people, including Siddiq. Although the captives had all fought back bravely, they were ultimately overwhelmed and subdued. Siddiq was forced to watch in horror as Alpha executed his friends one by one, but was ultimately allowed to live. After he was found by Michonne, Daryl and Carol, Siddiq showed them the new border that the Whisperers had established. The border consisted of a row of long wooden spikes, ten of which were topped with the heads of the people Siddiq had seen slaughtered. When the group returned to the Kingdom, Siddiq told everyone what had happened, but also that the victims had died fighting for one another and should be remembered as heroes.

Season 10[]

In the months following the massacre, Siddiq was suffering from severe PTSD. He tried to put it out of his mind by occupying himself with his work and focusing on his duties as a new parent following the birth of his and Rosita's daughter, whom they named Coco. During this period, Alexandria gained another doctor in the form of Dante, who was quick to befriend Siddiq.

Over the coming weeks, Alexandria would be continually threatened by the Whisperers who committed a number of small attacks to wear the community down slowly. This included sending waves of walkers towards the settlement and even contaminating the water supply by allowing walkers to bleed into the stream that provided the town's drinking water. As a result, multiple residents fell ill with what was first believed to be a stomach bug. After one resident died from the sickness, Siddiq became overwhelmed with guilt and tried to take his own life by jumping into Alexandria's pond and drowning himself. However, Rosita - who was ill herself - jumped in and saved him. After this, Siddiq finally admitted to her about how he was being haunted by nightmares and constantly reliving the trade fair massacre.

Death and reanimation[]

In the Season 10 episode "Open Your Eyes", after realizing the source of the sickness in Alexandria is the water supply, Siddiq returned home where he wallowed in his frustration, blaming himself for not noticing sooner. While looking out of the window in silence, he was visited by Dante. Dante tried to reassure Siddiq, but as he spoke, he clicked his tongue. This caused Siddiq to recall another detail from the trade fair massacre: the Whisperer that had held him and forced him to watch his friends die had been clicking their tongue as they spoke. At this moment, Siddiq realized that Dante was working for Alpha and went for a nearby hatchet, but Dante stopped him and held him in a chokehold, strangling him to death.

In the following episode, "The World Before", Siddiq would reanimate while Rosita and Dante fought each other. He attempted to attack his daughter Coco, but Rosita was able to overpower Dante in time and stopped Siddiq by stabbing him in the head with her knife.
