Superman - also commonly known as Clark Kent or Kal-El - is one of the figurehead characters of DC Comics and comic books in general, having helped to establish the superhero genre in modern culture. He has appeared in numerous TV programs and films over the years and is recognised worldwide by his blue skin-tight suit and red cape. In the majority of his appearances, Superman has been perceived as something of an omni-present, godly figure who uses his immense powers for the benefit of mankind. He has often been called indestructible, though there have been occasions where he has seemingly perished (albeit temporarily), most notably in his first encounter with the alien monster known as Doomsday.
