Tsukomo Shiratori is a character from the anime series Martian Successor Nadesico. A high-ranking officer of the Jovian Federation's Superior Male Forces, Tsukomo is regarded as an enemy of the United Earth Armed Forces. This doesn't make him evil, however. Tsukomo is a noble warrior as well as a loving brother to his younger sister Yukina. Having grown up watching the Gekigangar anime as most Jovians have, he strongly believes in the examples of friendship and unity that the show presents and uses these examples to try and achieve peace between Jupiter and Earth.

Tsukomo looks very similar to Jiro Yamada and even sounds like him, though these similarities are merely coincidence.

Japanese Voice: Tomokazu Seki

English Voice: Brett Weaver

History[]

Tsukomo makes his first appearance in the episode "The Significant Other From A Star Far Away". He participates in the Jovians' first live boson-jump operations against Earth, but his mecha is defeated and brought aboard the battleship Nadesico. Tsukomo hides aboard the ship and encounters female officers Megumi Reinhardt and Minato Haruka who help him escape and accompany him back to his fleet. It is there that Minato and Megumi discover that the Jovians are all human and learn the truth about their origins. Tsukomo later returns the two women to the Nadesico and afterwards starts pursuing the possibility of forging peace between Jupiter and Earth.

During the brief time that Megumi and Minato were aboard his ship, Tsukomo also developed feelings for Minato and she for him. Several months after their first meeting, the two would meet again aboard the Nadesico as Tsukomo and Yurika Misumaru worked together to try and bring a diplomatic resolution to the war in the form of a Gekigangar anime convention.

Death[]

In the episode "Ubiquitous Righteousness", Tsukomo and a diplomatic team from the Nadesico meet with Jovian military commander Haruki Kusakabe aboard his flagship. While Tsukomo and the Nadesico crew are hopeful that the peace negotiations will go ahead smoothly, Kusakabe has no intention of forming a lasting peace and demands that Earth surrenders entirely. Tsukomo is outraged by Kusakabe's terms but the admiral refuses to be swayed. He has arranged for Tsukomo's best friend and fellow captain Genichiro Tsukomi to hide behind a sliding door and shoot Tsukomo. Tsukomo is fatally wounded and is brought back to the Nadesico where he dies in the medical bay. Before passing, he gives Minato an engagement ring, expressing his wish to marry her.
