Vanessa Carlyle (portrayed by Morena Baccarin) is a supporting character in Deadpool and Deadpool 2. She serves as the love interest of Wade Wilson - aka Deadpool.
History[]
In 2016, Vanessa was working as a prostitute when she met Wade Wilson in Weasel's bar, Sister Margeret's Home for Wayward Children. The two found out that they had much in common, such as having terrible upbringings by awful parents and similar eccentric, if not downright crazy, personalities. They began dating and spent a great deal of their time playing skee-ball at the arcade or having raunchy sex at Vanessa's apartment. They lived happily together for some time, but Wade would later leave Vanessa after finding out he had terminal cancer.
However, Wade would gain a new lease on life after submitting himself to experimentation by the mutant criminal Ajax. After months of torturous procedures, Wade finally gained the mutant ability to rapidly heal his body, although as a side effect, his cancer had spread throughout his body and left him hideously deformed. After being left to die when Ajax's Worshop burned down, Wade made it his mission in life to hunt down Ajax and make him undo what he had done.
While hunting down Ajax, Wade actively avoided going back to Vanessa, believing she wouldn't have him back in his grotesque state. However, Ajax would have Vanessa kidnapped, forcing a confrontation between him and Deadpool. With the aid of the X-Men Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Deadpool killed Ajax and saved Vanessa, revealing his scarred face to her. Vanessa remained just as in love with Wade as before despite his deformity and the two reconciled, continuing their relationship.
Death[]
In Deadpool 2, two years after the first film, Wade and Vanessa had begun plans to start a family and were excited at the prospect of having a child. Unfortunately, Sergei Valishnikov, a drug lord that Deadpool had failed to kill, turned up at their apartment out of the blue, looking for revenge. Deadpool was able to kill the thugs accompanying Valishnikov, but the Russian criminal drew a gun and fired at Vanessa, killing her. While Deadpool did kill Valishnikov afterwards, he became deeply depressed and attempted to commit suicide, but found that his healing factor made him immortal. It wouldn't be until after he, Cable and Domino prevented the mutant Russell Collins from committing murder, that Deadpool would finally come to terms with Vanessa's death.
