Waylander (portrayed by Derwin Jordan) was a supporting character in Jason X. He was among several students from the New Harvard University on Earth II who went on a field trip to the original Earth aboard the Grendel.
History[]
In 2455, the Grendel makes an expedition to the now-dead Earth where they discover the long-abandoned Crystal Lake Research Facility. There, Professor Lowe and his students discover two cryogenically frozen bodies, one being Dr. Rowan LaFontaine, the other being the legendary immortal serial killer Jason Voorhees. Both bodies are brought back to the Grendel and Rowan is resuscitated while Jason's frozen cadaver is examined. However, Jason inevitably reanimates and goes on a killing spree, causing catastrophic damage to the Grendel in the process.
Death[]
Waylander managed to survive up until the final act of the film. After Jason had been upgraded to "Uber-Jason", he advanced on Rowan, Waylander, Tsunaron and KM-14 as they waited for the patrol ship Tiamat to arrive. Tsunaron was able to distract Jason with a holographic projection of Camp Crystal Lake, his old killing grounds. With the cyborg murderer distracted, Waylander went about setting several explosive charges in the docking umbilical to ensure that Jason would go down with the Grendel. However, Jason soon realised that Camp Crystal Lake was an illusion and resumed his pursuit. Just as the Tiamat docked and Rowan, Tsunaron and KM boarded, Waylander was cornered by Jason. He told the others to leave without him and they reluctantly did so. With the others safely away, Waylander detonated the charges, killing himself and seemingly taking Jason with him.
